I was watching a rockets game with a couple of freinds, and we all agreed that often Kenny is what made things happen. He would do a lot of the little things that go unnoticed but have an impact on the game. I hated all the Kenny bashers, they would base everything on his O, and not on the little things he would do. Fact is every team needs a player like Kenny to do well. I only hope we have someone step into that role real soon. We need players that can do the little things.

I think the trade was made with an eye for the playoffs where Posey would be valuable vs the likes of Kobe and Finley.

Eddies play in the last two games has more resembled a high school junior..5 rebounds in 60 minutes for a power foreward, yikes!
The question isnt one of comparison with KT..its: Is Griffin better than Griffin ONE YEAR AGO. EddieG must stepup, become more aggressive and earn the starting pf spot. If he does not , the loss of KT will hurt the Rockets.

This is what the Rockets gained from the trade. Look at the long-term:

    We had 3 PF's:
    An undersized overachiever - KT.
A potentially great player with very raw offensive skills - EG.
A good player who just came off a major injury - Mo T.

KT is not the long-term solution. To be a contender we need a real banger. Someone who can be a 9-10 rebound type player day in day out. A Brian Grant type whose game is tough defense, tough rebounding and someone that can knock down the open 12 footer but wont stray 20 feet away jacking up perimeter shots. Playing the ISO with KT was not going to bring us a championship. Plus if we ever intend to fill in missing pieces to our team, we could not overpay both him and MO. T (unless you wanted a salary cap situation resembling the NY Knicks).

EG may or may not be the answer. He has a huge ceiling. He is very raw but with the right coaching and hard work, he can become great. He is very athletic and has a live NBA body. We won't know whether he's the answer or not unless he plays. If KT is taking 30-35 minutes a night, EG wouldve played around 10-15.
After next year, we need to determine his contract situation. The more we see him play, the better assessment we can make. Whatever potential we lost in KT, we would be 100% more pissed if we let EG go and in 5 years he becomes a great player for somone else.

Mo. T has a huge contract that no one in their right mind would want. Assuming KT continued to play the majority of minutes, Mo T. was relegated to the bench. A guy making that much money sitting on the bench = dead weight. Plus its not fair considering he just came off a major injury. if he plays more and starts regaining his old form, this opens up the opportunity to trade him.

Kenny is a tweener, James Posey is not. He can match up with almost any SF in the league and shut them down. He is a very good rebounder, can run the break and knock down the open jumper. He is exactly the type of player the Rockets need. He is a tremendous upgrade at SF considering we have Glenn Rice, Nachbar, and T. Morris. Glenn Rice's days are almost over. He will not be here by the time the Rockets are ready to contend. Nachbar has not played at all. If he develops, great, we have more depth (Posey can also play the 2). If he doesn't then what? who plays SF? And don't even get me started on T. Morris. This guy cannot play.

Some Rockets fans are incredibly myopic and have no grasp of how to improve this team long-term.

Where is everyone coming from ?

2 weeks ago, i was the only one saying i did not understand the trade...everyone was so excited on this board...

We have gone from bad in our first game without KT, to worse against the knicks...i don't know if it's KT's absence, but it is a troubling coincidence...

To certain extent, you are right we are missing KT's defence and post up game.

On the other hand, I think our current defensive setback is more to do with playing JH less and Posey fewer minutes than it should be.

As to offence, we rely too much on the outside shots, which is very inconsistent with the exception of Franchise. EG, Rice and MT focus too much outside. It is worse when our guards are too much one-on-one, and of course Mobley's sensational shooting % is not there any more. The new lineup is not in sync after Mobley's come back and the trade as well. So, all these add up to 3 losses.

The quick remedy is to play JH, Posey and Boki more; and have Mobley come off the bench. He may provide scoring touch off the second unit, which has been badly outplayed in the last three games.

If you look at the statistics, we major problems were not confined to the starting lineup. It is actually much worse when Yao was at the bench. Even as many rebounds as Cato had in the previous game, the score went from bad to much worse when he was on the court. The main reason was no scoring at that time. Not only the Yaomanio.com's statistic show the setback in scores witout Yao on the court, but also I recall we basically lost the game at the end of the third period and the beginning of the fourth period in the last game when Yao had a breather.

Even after he came back in the fourth quarter, he had no touch. And at one time, the score was something like 20-2 against us.

Anyone, I am not saying Yao was our saviour, in particular in the last game; but Rudith should rearrange his lineups. It clearly did not work. There was no chemistry at all.

    :( :(

Hmmm.... I guess we did get ripped off.

Kenny Thomas is 100% better than James Posey.

    RIET -

Talk about Myopic - You're the one constantly spouting the party line like a frickin Rush Limbaugh clone!! We've all heard the Roc's logic for making the trade, and the bottom line is of course $$$, and NOT winning now!

If (and it's a huge "if") Posey can become a stopper on defense against the high scoring 2/3's in the league, then I will of course change my assessment of the trade, but we have to get to the playoffs (AND NOT JUST THE 8TH SEED!!!) in order to prove your point!!

Unfortunately, without K.T. we may not get our collective sh*t together in time to make the playoffs. And if we sneak in, we will be little more than first round fodder for the Kings (who will use S.F.'s "set a fire under they ass" comment as bulletin board motivation) who will torch us like the NBA children the Roc's are.

Having gone back and forth with this "I'm right!", "No, I'm right" silliness, I'm willing to at least wait and see on Posey. I just wish the Roc's would have trade MoT's ass (even if the got nothing in return), because he will never reach the level of effectiveness at either end of the court that K.T. has reached, and K.T. will ALWAYS works harder than Mo.

    Always!!

said this on a similar thread, but:
we very well may have been on the short end of the stick, but, posey looks like he could be solid, and KT was likely out of here after this season when his contract expired. so, it's good that we got something for him.

Sadly, this is a valid point. I understand, and agree.
