Houston Rockets (17-23)

Over the past two seasons the name of the game for the Houston Rockets has been asset acquisition. They've been involved in discussions for every big name free agent from Chris Bosh to Amar'e Stoudemire and have been in the mix for every major trade discussion from Carmelo Anthony to Stoudemire, and yet have not been able to land a big fish.

What the Rockets have done is accumulate a large number of assets that could be used to make a big trade work, and now they're waiting for the right situation to present itself so they can cash in the assets. From first round picks to a vast array of complementary talent at multiple positions, the Rockets are poised to deal.

The piece most teams are interested at this point is Shane Battier, who is known as much for his veteran leadership as he is his top-notch defense. The Rockets are open to moving him, but not for just any package. If he were the final piece to a deal that landed them Carmelo Anthony, for example, Houston would likely deal Battier. They are not, however, in a rush to unload the heart and soul of their team. The Rockets have also had calls regarding Aaron Brooks and Kevin Martin, but are unwilling to part with either unless if lands a superstar in Houston.

One way or another, the Rockets need a new star player. It's unlikely Yao Ming can ever carry that mantle for Houston again, and without a star to act as a closer they lose a lot of close games.

It's nice to know that at least other teams respect what Shane brings, unlike many fans here.

I'm sure they've gotten calls for Kyle as well considering how well he has played.

I'm referring to this slip-up; he makes 5.75 mill per year. Over 3 years he is guaranteed to make 17,250,000.
