Can someone explain why people say that Morey drafted Gay and wanted to trade him for Battier, when he wasn't even the GM at the time?
... we could afford a project this year ... then deal with our current needs via trade. If we took Jordan, we certainly would need to do better than we did with Griffin, and hopefully management has learned from the experience, besides "don't take on emotionally immature guys." But, the guy has insane talent, maybe as much as anyone in this draft, and if someone could get him pointed in the right direction, and develop him, Jordan could turn out to be the STEAL of this draft. If he developed out his talent, I'd love to see him grow next to and behind Yao.
He was working under CD at the time, so he was there, just not calling the shots. They say it was him because at some point apparently JVG said it was a Morey move. I can't find the quote though.
The only thing that makes me skeptical of this rumor is the fact that using Luther Head to move up 7 spots would indicate that the player coming back from the Wiz was worse than Luther. Who in the NBA could possibly be worse than Luther Head?
but luther is bad and cheap. which is better than the plethora of bad and expensive players out there (see Cardinal, Brian). the wiz do need cap space if they want to retain Jamison. . .
Most of you guys are amazed at Courtney Lee's videos. Remember that he played at Western Kentucky, he didnt play against tough competition. He only played against tough competition in the NCAA tournament, which was only a few games. Donte Greene, Brandon Rush both played in big time conferences (Big East, Big 12), and went up with some of the best in college basketball. CDR played pretty good competition at Memphis except their confrence games and most non-conference games. This is why I dont really like trading up at #18 to draft Lee, unless he turns out to be like a Kevin Martin type player- small school, late 1st round pick, putting up great numbers.
From J Givony himself: http://www.draftexpress.com/article/Word-on-the-Street-Draft-Day-Rumblings--250-PM-EST--2950/ -Houston may trade out of the first round, according to reports we received from a team drafting in the 20’s. If Courtney Lee is not available at their pick (25), they may trade down with Minnesota and acquire the #31 and #34 picks. They are also talking with other teams. -Rumors that Houston will trade up to the 18th pick in exchange for Luther Head and the #25 have been called “completely false” by sources with knowledge of the situation. The Wizards like Roger Mason much more than Luther Head and don’t consider him any kind of upgrade to what they have already. There is "lots of interest in the #18 pick" though.
Geez. Is Head really that bad. I know he stunk it up in the playoffs the last 2 seasons, but how many players in the league have actually shot 44% from the 3pt line in 80 games during an NBA season. I agree that he has a ton of shortcomings, but the kid can shoot the 3 ball and alot of teams should covet that.
i think the most likely situation is that the rockets trade out of the first round as well. if the rockets are convinced that they will be taking an "upside" pick, there are plenty of those kinds of guys that'll still be there after pick 30, and second round contracts are more team friendly.
Somehow work up to get Westbrook. Kid is going to be a stud. Minnesota's looking to trade down and wants a proven vet. 3rd pick for Battier! >_> No, but realistically I wouldn't mind Lee, Green, or even CDR. Rush would be real nice though..
