Alex Kennedy and Kyler continue to contradict each other. HoopsworLOLd

Kyler: Rockets have a deal in the works for Dalembert/pick
Kennedy: Rockets are shopping Dalembert around and could be packaged with a pick.

Kyler: OKC is keeping their pick
Kennedy: OKC is moving their pick

One other one I think that I'm forgetting.

    A bit different, yeah.

One seemed to indicate that they were on the verge of the deal. Another says they are just shopping him around, no deal done, close, in place, nothing.

It's whatever. I don't care. HoopsworLOLd will continue to be HoopsworLOLd.

@Sam_Amick: Source with knowledge of Rockets' strategy says we should slow down on the Dalembert trade talk that was coming from other teams.

    Jonathan Feigen @Jonathan_Feigen
On reports of a Dalembert deal, was told "Not happening." Rox would like to move a pick, but also like Sam's contract.Long way to next Thu

the only way i want to hear the sentance, "Rockets want to move a pick", is if it's followed by "for a better pick".

The Rockets' reported resistance to trading Dalembert has multiple advantages:

    (1) It's a negotiating tactic against those teams who think the Rockets are desperate to dump Dalembert and are not offering (what the Rockets view as) "adequate value" in trades;

    (2) If the interest in retaining Dalembert is truly legit, it's because the team is not overly confident that it can afford to retain Marcus Camby, who will most assuredly seek one last multi-year deal, hoping to get far more money than the Rockets are willing to commit to him; and

    (3) Dalembert's $6.7M expiring contract is still fairly reasonable for a decent veteran center and can still be used for salary matching purposes in a big post-draft or in-season trade.

Translation: We are not using Dalembert's contract to eat some other team's salary unless that team gives us something nice. Lets see what pops up before the draft.

Can't believe we like the idea of his expiring $6.7M next year on the roster versus shipping him out as a salary loophole on draft night. We can give someone cap savings ($5M via buyout) without actually taking on major additional salary ourselves.

    ex
Martin + Dalembert --> can receive ~$24M in return (other team ~$10M savings after buyout)

    C'mon. It's fairly obviously it's GM talk. See Bima's point #1 & Carl's post.

Where there's smoke there usually is fire. I have little doubt that the Rockets would rather trade Dalembert for something of value, instead of keeping him around another year.

I don't think anyone here is saying that they PREFER to retain Dalembert next year over using him in a trade that makes this team significantly better (either in the short-term or the long-term).

Again, this is all quite likely a negotiating tactic.

And even if it isn't (i.e., if there is no "big trade" to be had using Dalember's contract), keeping Dalembert is not the worst thing in the world, especially if the Rockets are confident that Deron Williams isn't walking through that door to sign a free agent contract with Houston.

A relevant question: What kind of center can you sign in the FA market with a 1 year, $6.7 million offer?

There are teams out there that actually can use Dalembert's services and would like the flexibility that an expiring contract brings for the next offseason. Two examples I can think of are the Bucks (traded Bogut) and Dalembert's old team Philly (Hawes is a FA, Brand might get amnestied). So, it's not a given that whatever team that Dalembert is on come July 2012, whether it is the Rockets or any other team, will want to waive him.

    Good question.

Last year, coming right out of a LOCKOUT?: Not Samuel Dalembert.

Kennedy just mentioned Houston is willing to trade for Howard and try to convince him to stay.

    Dalembert + 16 for Toronto #8 (bima's proposal)

Lowry, Martin, Morris, #8, #14 for Howard

    Dragic
    Lee
    Parsons
    Scola
    Howard

as much as i think he's a cancer, i'd probably pull the trigger for a high draft pick.
