There is no problem with fans getting hopeful.

I have been saying since June that this team has major problems, and that this is a different year.

The bullpen is shaky, the closer has a plus 5.00 era.....only Roy O has been dominant all year, Roger only played half a year, and Petitte was crap until the last month or so.

Cap that off with Ensberg and Lane's crashes, and Ausmus and Everett proving they are not major league caliber hitters and you have a stinker of a season.

Last year, everything clicked, career years for a lot of players, this year proved that last year was a fluke.

No, But really if we do make it to the playoffs do you really think we will win it all and thats if we go to the WS... What, we might win 1 game instead of getting swept....

I said that we would make the playoffs simply because no team in the Wild Card race is dominant to the point where you can predict the outcome of any series. San Diego could get swept by Pittsburgh and no one would be surprised. The Astros know how to win in September. That is something that no other team in the Wild Card race save Florida can say. The Marlins know how to win when it counts. No other team in this race does. Given that and the weakness of the teams in the race, I have no problem thinking that the Astros will make the postseason.

The postseason is a new ballgame altogether. I don't buy the argument that this team will get smacked by the Mets in the NLDS. We are definitely the underdogs, but it's not inconceivable for us to pull the series off. In 1998 when we won 102 games, who thought that SD had a chance in hell against us? We had dominant starting pitching all across the board (Johnson, Reynolds, Hampton, and Lima). We couldn't even take that series to 5 games. Who on Earth would have thought that the Florida Marlins would beat NY in the World Series? My point is, all bets are off in the Playoffs. It's a new season and a new game.

The Astros will be in the playoffs.

It's just their way of coping with a team that should be well over .500.

I think it is funny that the biggest, "Why do you doubt the Astros, you aren't a true fan, you are a bandwagon fan because you question or get irritated" people in this forum haven't voted.

Remember a little luck has to be on our side for us to be in the playoffs. Not only did we had to do a 9-1 run at the final stretch in 2004, but we also had to hope both the Cubs and Giants lose key games as well (which they did). Something at that effect has to happen (and against more teams this time) for us to be in the playoffs. Though right now all I'm hoping for is for this team to continue winning ;)

So, which is it now. Have you given up on them again or are you using "reverse psychology"?

I have always thought they were dead, but was hoping to be wrong, and the reverse pyschology seemed to be working so I ran with it.

However, I have never believed that this team would compete, not since they crashed after the 19-9 start.

The chemistry is just all wrong, and too many weak links in players that were counted on.......especially the bullpen.....

Where is the magic? Very sorry, Roger, but this come back won't end late in October.

blah blah blah...and last year you said the same exact thing. they can't do it. it's over...blah blah blah.

then you did the cute little reverse psychology trick...that way you can't be wrong, right??

they may not do it. but geez, for someone who "quit on the team" you sure are interested.

    WOW

Too bad the Padres are playing well-which tends to drain hope for Astro fans.

The answer to this question depends on whether the Astros won last night.

Yes, CF.net users are that fickle.

yeah, no kidding. last year it was "over" in June. then they came back and took the WC lead...only to see it fall away again, which of course made it "over" again. it was "over" like 5 times last season. all before October.

No, and it's not because I'm a Phillies fan. I think the Padres will win the WC, if not the division (they are only 2 games back). With David Wells pitching in postseason form, Peavy back to his dominating self, their pitching staff will carry them.

I don't think the Astros will go to the playoffs, but I'll still enjoy every win and hurt with every loss. I feel too many people place to much on the hoisting of a trophy instead of enjoying each game.

Just because I don't BELIEVE they are going to do it, does not mean I am less of a fan, or hope that I am wrong.

I just see less in this team than last years and the year before, the players are all one year older, and many hitters apparently had career years last year.

Just not going to happen Max, but you are free to refute it if you like.

no, and it pains me to think/type that. this club doesn't have the leadership it takes to pull this one out (or the lineup)

i didn't say you were less of a fan. i just heard this exact same song and dance last year...alluding to the season before that. "well, it's not gonna be like 2004 this time." now it's, "well, it's not gonna be like 2005 this time." some year, i guess the naysayers will be right.

    i can't refute it...only the 'stros can.
