Spoiler well...i expected some plot twist..or something to happen...but it became carrie's pregnancy story.
I liked it. Wasn't an epic finale, but more of an epilogue to what went down last week, and that's fine with me.
Its mutual. The fans don't want them to continue either. This episode came soaring in from last weeks episode. 20 minutes in, and its nose dived straight into the ground. No loose ends. This would be a good exit for the show.
Yeah this felt like a series finale not a season finale. Season 4- Carrie in Istanbul, Saul in NY working in the private sector.... That can't work, they will need a big event early. I'm surprised they didn't have that event happen in tonight's episode.
Ordinary finale, really should have just killed Carrie too and ended it. Is anyone looking forward to the next season? Except for Quinn no characters worth rooting for.
So did they reshoot things to include the real world story of lifting of economic sanctions on Iran in exchange of halting their nuke program, or was that just an awesome guess by the writers? Also, maybe they want to leave themselves open to incorporate another real world plot device, and thus they will wait to start the season 4 story (instead of introducing a cliffhanger here). Remember, this show comes from the same writers/producers as 24... and they didn't always use cliffhangers for season finales (and had seasons where had they ended the show right then/there, things would have been just fine).
I was ok with the series finale. I thought it wrapped up a solid season in a unspectacular yet solid fashion. Prediction for next season: Javadi kills Lockhart and the powers that be reach out to Saul to comeback into the fold as the head of the CIA. He does the same thing for Saul that Saul did for him. Carrie gives away her child to her family and you see very little going forward. Something happens in Turkey that requires the assistance of Quinn on the ground. Quinn and Carrie begin relationship. And so on.
I agree that Carrie gives the baby away. Didn't they include the pregnancy story because she was pregnant in real life? They probably through all that stuff in at the end so they could explain to the viewer why the baby won't be in the next season. Anyway, this felt like an entire episode written to the fans explaining why they had to kill Brody. All of the conversations between Saul, Dar, the Senator and even Brody and Carrie seemed more like explaining to the audience why they had to kill it, why it was better this way and why the fans shouldn't abandon the show now that he's gone. I've heard that Saul may not be back with the show either. If so, I'm out. I have no interest in the future of Carrie. I can't believe how they tied it up in a bow and gave her a promotion and all was well between her and the new CIA director. This woman did everything she could to blow Javadi's cover multiple times. I mean damn, when the guard shows up to arrest Brody and she starts screaming "I know Javadi!" I wanted her shot right there. If those hadn't been loyal to Javadi, she would have just blown his cover and ruined the whole op. The idea that she'd be promoted to station chief is ridiculous. She's continually disobeyed orders, almost blew the most important mission in decades, had to be shot by her own people, etc. She's a volatile loose canon. She'd be on administrative leave for sure once she was no longer needed for Brody purposes.
How I would have redone it: When the IRCG guards show up to grab Brody, they arrest him and Carrie starts freaking out screaming "I know Javadi, I know Javadi!" The guard walks up to her and says "The Colonel is aware." Bang. Shoots her in the head. Carrie is dead and Brody is arrested. Saul is devastated, we get some CIA denying her existence moments with the news reports announcing a dead American woman, Brody being captured, yada yada. Brody gets a scene with Javadi where they have really deep communications and Brody tells him he is at peace with where he's at. Brody dies, screen goes black and flashes forward to 4 months later with Saul talking to his wife. He's not AS upbeat as he was in the real finale. The wife reads the paper and tells he everything about his accomplishments. He gives that half smile when she says "You did it" and says "not just me." They both have a moment of sadness. We next see Saul meeting Dar for breakfast. They have their dialogue and they talk about all that stuff they originally talked about. Ends with Saul saying they paid a terrible price. Jumpy to the star ceremony. Lockhart is reading the names off the list and the season ends as he says "Carrie Matheson."
I agree, if Saul is out, I am out too. He makes the show. Removing the Brody family line is addition by subtraction. As I mentioned before, this show is all about Claire Danes. I understand the writing is about how amazing she is at her job, but you can't be genius and wreckless and still bat 1.000. It will be nice when hollywood will realize that fans detest the Dana type of drama. I would love for Homeland to completely recast for season 4.
I didn't like how the second half of the season moved away from Quinn. Next season should be around Saul and Quinn.
Not a bad one Yank! I just don't mind when a finale isn't always ended with some shocking twist. You can't always drown Tara in bleach water and stab her in the back of the head. The whole dynamic of Javadi owing Saul needs to be utilized next year to get Lockhart out. They can build a show around Quinn, Dar, Saul, Carrie and a couple new characters. The CIA operations guy seems to be a good actor. As well the Iranian CIA lady and her uncle could take on larger roles. Crazy idea but could they do a Prequel type of season? That would allow them to explore the characters of Saul,Quinn,Carrie,Brody and even Dar. I could go for a year of more CIA ops and less pregnancy and Dana. Plus, Ms. Brody never got nekked again.
