I am a conservative, and I think these press conferences are a joke as well. Tell me something I don't know. I get it, the terrorists want to attack us.

i agree, if you're going to get everyone riled up and scared, at least do the job to give as much specific information as possible. you don't call your kids and say, "Dad's going to die soon" and then hang up.

Why do the terrorists want to bomb America? Wouldn't they be killing the liberals? Maybe they should target Montana.

Imagine our surprise when RM95's Girl and I showed up at his office and he was wearing that. Of course, we were in San Francisco, so no one really thought twice about it...

It's the same thing as before! Thanks Homeland Security! I'm convinced you are the best department ever at wasting my tax dollars.

They do these things to cover themselves, because as soon as a terrorist blows up a bus stop in New York, or blows up a truck in front of some elementary school, or whatever...most people who don't like the administration are going to jump and down and yell..."why didn't you tell us we were going to be attacked?!?!"...or..."why didn't you stop this one guy in 270 million people in the country from making a bomb and killing 200 people?!?!"

They give these warning because when it happens...when, not if, but when it happens, at least they can say that you were warned and we are trying hard to get all 270 million people on the lookout for that one guy that wants to blow you and your family up.

I read this board most days, and I can usually keep myself from reading all the poo thrown around this this forum, but it has boiled down to this: many people on this board don't think the current government can do ANYTHING right.

They give money to AIDS research in Africa..only because Bono forced them...

They cut taxes and turn unemployment and the overall economy around....only cut taxes for the rich...losing sight that the people that pay the most taxes are going to have the biggest cuts when they are cut.

Somehow Bush "caused" the internet bubble of the late 90s to bust leading to people losing there jobs, but he has nothing to do with replacing most of those jobs.

We support our soldiers, but we try to find something wrong with what they do at every turn.

We pollute too much and people shouldn't have SUV's because they use too much oil...but half the people on this board would be out of a job if we stopped using oil...because half the people on this board live in Houston...and Houston't economy would tank...and the economy on the whole would tank...not to mention that even if we all drove electric cars...we's still need all that oil for all of our plastics, chemicals, manufacturing...gas is a byproduct...just gravy....the reason Exxon can make 40 billion in profit is that the gas is just gravy money...most of the money comes when they sell the other products of oil to DOW or whatever.

I'm way off topic now...but sheesh...some of you guys need to settle down a little...

    ...and I'm spent.

Dude! *Something* must be working -- you two are doing pretty well, even if it takes the spiderman costume and a few rides on the monorail! ;)

Congrats and best wishes again on that front by the way.

RM95, . I only wear that costume when I meet people for the first time. It makes me feel safe.

A lot of Americans identify themselves as liberal...

Why do you hate America so much!

supermac34, I hear you, to a degree, but hear me out for a second.

    * you're completely right about covering their asses I think. They are in a no win situation, but how about more info or no press conference. I'll admit I'm too critical of the "outfit" thing, but it seemed funny to me given the details.

    * a bunch of us were falling over ourselves complimenting the AIDS pledge to Africa, but has that funding started flowing now? I hope so -- it was a good move in my opinion.

    * a lot of us dispute whether the economy has recovered, and job growth is still pretty bad, way behind forcasts and still in the red for the last few years in sum. And a lot of us believe tax cuts do not *necessarily* have to benefit those who need it least the most. In particular, if you didn't give a big break to the richest 1%, we wouldn't have such a horrific deficit right now, while 99% of the population would still get a benefit. I'll admit socialist tendencies, but what I'm saying is not very extreme at all, especially in terms of fiscal responsibility.

    * I don't blame Bush for the downturn in the economy. I live too immersed in the tech economy to believe that.

    * I've mainly quit whining about SUVs after I found out that a trans-continental domestic flight would cause more pollution *per passenger* than a year of SUV driving per passenger. I like to fly for my work and for fun, so I'm a prime problem, despite my little car and penchant for walking to work, etc. But now I will attack SUVs based on how I can't see any part of the road because of them. ;)

    Peace.

Mrs. B-Bob collected a little digital home movie this summer of all her older relatives (mom, dad, aunt, etc) commenting on Old Spice versus Aqua Velva in their sex lives, and it is freaking hysterical.

This assumption is just flat out wrong. Too many variables have been ignored for this statement to hold water.

They're not going to bomb america! Come on. They plan to hijack the election, right? They're sending three guys to Florida to yell random numbers from the crowd while they count the votes:

    Florida Official Counter: Bush: 31,984 - 31,985 - 31,986 -

    Terrorist: 43, 159!!!!!!

    Florida Official Counter: DAMN IT!!!!....Bush: 1 - 2 - 3

It is a pretty effective plan, you've got to admit. If Florida can't tally, we can't swear in a new president.

It's a wise plan, but it's funny to see an 85-yr-old guy say "Well now the Old Spice has always worked wonders for me, since I was a teanager. ... What? ... Oh, no, the amount didn't matter so much. Naw... It's more of an on-off sort of thing you understand. Even a little bit will do the trick."
