Only Dallas could be dumb enough to still own the rights to Maxwell.

What stash of files was Maxwell's rights hidden in?

That'd be like the Lakers throwing Mitch Richmond into the Pau Gasol deal

Yeah, it's some deal where they can use him as an expiring contract.

We should have Barkley's rights also, and Drexler's, and Sura's...we should use them...

Lets not forget how Maxwell got thrown in jail for 1 gram of weed.
if this was Tom Chambers, they wouldn't stop him or would they arrest him for 1 gram of weed.

Eckels, Wilson escort ex-Rocket Maxwell to jail for 90-day term

    By STEVE BREWER
    Staff

Former Houston Rockets guard Vernon Maxwell turned himself in Monday to Harris County Judge Robert Eckels, who then escorted him to the jail to begin serving a 90-day jail term stemming from a 1995 mar1juana possession case.

Maxwell, who had promised to surrender by 5 p.m., was about 20 minutes late and was escorted to the jail by his attorney, state Rep. Ron Wilson, and Eckels.

Maxwell and Wilson showed up at Eckels' office shortly after 5 p.m., and asked to be taken to the jail, Eckels said.

Eckels said the request was unusual because people with outstanding arrest warrants don't usually surrender to him.

But he walked Wilson and Maxwell to the prisoners' entrance of the jail, thus avoiding television cameras that had been camped outside a public entrance all day.

"Ron had called me as they were coming in," Eckels said. "It's unusual. However, there was no request for special treatment, and I had a person with a warrant out for their arrest who showed up and wanted to turn himself in. If there's anybody else out there with a warrant that wants to turn themselves in, I'll be happy to accommodate them."

Eckels said he thinks Wilson called him instead of going directly to jail because the two served in the Legislature together and have known each other for years.

Wilson has repeatedly declined comment on the case.

Deputies had been waiting for Maxwell after receiving a call from Wilson's office that he would surrender Monday. And as late as 5 p.m., deputies were still wondering when he would show up.

"What we're dealing with is a millionaire basketball player and a lawyer," said Lt. Ruben Diaz, head of the Sheriff's Department criminal warrants division. "What does that tell you about punctuality in this situation?"

County Court-at-Law Judge Don Jackson had issued an arrest warrant for Maxwell, who now plays for the Charlotte Hornets, on April 6.

The judge took the action after being told by the Harris County district attorney's office that the player's appeals had been exhausted.

After the warrant was issued, deputies asked police in Charlotte, N.C., to arrest Maxwell last Thursday.

Maxwell, who played for the Houston Rockets 1990-95, was stopped in October 1995 for running a red light. Police found a small bag containing a gram of mar1juana in his car.

Maxwell appealed his sentence all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, which announced in February, without comment, that it would not hear his appeal.

    Published: February 4, 1998

HORNETS 93, CELTICS 89 Twelve hours after showing up at his new job, Vernon Maxwell began paying big dividends for the Charlotte Hornets. Im just trying to make the most of things and get a fresh start, Maxwell said after he hit the go-ahead basket with 55 seconds left to send the Hornets to a 93-89 victory over the Boston Celtics last night.

They were talking about three point shooters during the three point shootout.

I don't think a player can also be a coach, cause of the salary cap.
