Nice one, gimme. And jello77, don't think the self-righteous judgment you hear from some is what you'll hear from all US folks. Sorry about your uncle. I for one don't think we Americans can launch missiles from our glass houses, but I only get one vote and if I live in the wrong part of town, it won't get counted anyway.

    B-Bob,
you mean you would rather watch people get killed en masse and buried in mass graves with no name on it, watch women raped, men taken away, tortured, and killed, kids left without parents, houses burned an so on and so... you would rather let all this happen when your country has all the means and technology to put an end to it?

Of course, I am sorry about jello's uncle too, but that was a mistake, an accident. People die in car accidents every day. By no means that can be compared to the malicous atrocities that the Serbs performed and that are so well documented by now.

The bottomline is that terrible things went on in Yugo and MAJORITY of Serbs knew about it and not only did nothing to stop it, but cheered on the sidelines, that's the bottomline. I am proud that America did the job that had to be done and nobody else would do it.

And again, jello's loss notwithstanding, the Americans did it with record-low number of civilian casualties. Much fewer civilian Serbs were killed in the Yugo war than Iraquis in the Gulf War.

    Kayman,

So that's the kind of post I can more easily get behind. Logical and more respectful. I definitely never want to sit idle watching the atrocities you cited. And I actually supported our intervention in that case, especially as there was *some* international support for what we did.

I just think it's incredibly tricky anytime a nation says "we know what's good for you, and we will impose our moral righteousness on you via our military supremacy." Sometimes, it's called for (like many cases in Africa, IMHO, where many people treat it as if its another planet). And the "glass houses" bit points out that we've honestly made a lot of big mistakes (e.g. funding some really evil people in Latin America, majorly funding Saddam when we thought he would do what we told him, etc.)

Mainly, I think I sympathized with jello77 when he was offended by the "another missile up your arse" or whatever. I don't think that kind of talk does anybody any good -- just leads to even more people thinking of us as unilateral, self-righteous cowboys.

If we could turn back to the Yugo bball team though... :) ... this entire thread started with some pretty bold talk about what would happen to their team. Even though they beat the US last night, I would think an Argentina can take them out.

Kayman I am still waiting for that apology. I guess your still looking up info so you can deny your ignorance. Better yet I can see your next post saying like this " opps I did not see your post" or something like "I am not looking to argue with you" which means that you are trying to cover up your ignorance. Come on Kayman I know you saw my posts and do not give me ythe lame excuse that you did not have time because you just spilled another one of your high hourse morality on your last post. Come on don't be afraid to emit your wrong.

    P.S. I am still waiting.

Again where is your proff that the MAJORITY of serbs knew about it. Hey I agree that Milosevic is evil and he went over board dealing with terorists(KLA) and the Albanians. Hey all I looking for you to prove yourself as not a ignorant person.

I'm moving this to the BBS Hangout because I somehow don't think we're talking about the Yugoslavian basketball team anymore...

Good call, but if this thread :)mad: ) is hanging out, I'd hate to see one that was tense.;)

Personally, since I wasn't there, and I only get to read and view the vastly filtered and slanted US media coverage, I wouldn't say I abolutely knew what proportion of Serbs supported Slob. Milo. I think it's hard for us here to understand the hundreds of years of back-and-forth atrocities in the region. There's an excellent book called "Balkan Ghosts" for anyone interested in the region's history. Just my 2 cents, because I'm so smart and well read. Amazing I even have time to talk bball.
