It is the easiest issue to be identified by all the techniques today.

The problem is the NBA did not want to use the replay. Game has been over.

Roy caught the ball turned around, squared his shoulders, then released we were definitely screwed. The buzzer should have went off on Yao's shot

Are you a trained NBA official? Or are you making an assumption based on what you can see over an official's shoulder?

I don't know what they do use, but I do know that the broadcast *IS NOT* the official time.

What they should do is make the timekeeper a league official that travels with the referees to eliminate time errors like this & the UTAH series in '97(?).

Im a rockets fan, but I dont care if it took 2 seconds for Roy to take that shot off. He deserved it and the trailblazers gave the rockets a reality check that they are truly undersized. Outrebounding them like nobodies business. Rockets need to take this game and adjust on how to deal with other bigger teams around the league or we'll be in for a long season.

I already stated what I said and what I didn't say, and offered a bet. Take it or leave it. I say take it so Clutch gets $10 either way.

The bolded part is what will cause the Rockets' appeal to be void! :(

No, I am going by my experience covering the San Antonio Spurs at KSAT-12 a few years ago, and my good friend that is the video coordinator of those same Spurs whom I talked to about this very issue this morning.

I agree about the official time keeper, but I think the league probably looks at this and thinks that it doesn't happen all that often so screw it.

what about all the flashy angles TNT offers their viewers? Don't they have their own camera crew?

or are you saying they defer to the arena feed for replays specifically?

and what about non-televised games, do they go to the local telecast or in-arena feed for review? or are they one and the same?

from what I interpret, there is a telecast and an in-arena feed. some telecasts I see, the game clock on the screen (as well as shot clock) is a shot of the actual clock above the basket.

this I noticed once when Shaq slammed a hard dunk and brought the basket down, I saw that the shot of the game clock was shaking along with the rim.

the TNT clock on screen, I noticed, is a superimposed, computer generated graphic of the time clock vs. a shot of the actual (red colored) game clock.

this is based on observation, and in no way am I claiming to be an expert.

Wipe the loss from our standings, and re-schedule the last .9 seconds somewhere near the end of the season. free food for those who show up for those .9 seconds.

I have edited the video clip provided on Youtube and there's no way it took roy 1.6 seconds to shoot the ball. That's just flat out exagerated. There was delay of about .5 seconds in starting the clock. When the ball leaves Roy's hands, there is either .5 or .6 left on the clock. The problem with doing an exact analysis is the low quality of the Youtube clip. This is A LOT closer than everyone on here thinks. I hate to admit it, but the shot might have been good even with starting the clock at the exact time Roy touched the ball.

I dont know if anyone remembers this but i think during third quarter they had clock problems too and never added the seconds back. i remember the announcers saying something along the lines of "oh they didnt even start the clock yet" then a couple seconds later they said "there it goes".

They used to use a small camera shot inset into the picture of the actual clock until the technology was such that they could show a better version on screen, the clock is tied directly to the feed...so that even the fancy one you see on TNT is accurate.

it was like 2-3 seconds off the clock that shouldnt have been. if that had not happened roy's "game winner" wouldn't have even been possible.

You have degradation on the youtube clip, where frames are cut out to allow for compression, it is not close to accurate.

Using the TNT feed with time-stamped video is the most accurate measure and they have that at the arena...

    Wow.

I just timed the shot (multiple times) starting when Blake throws the ball in (wanted to be sure not to start late) and ending when Roy is back on the ground after the shot (to be sure I didn't end too soon) and here are the times I got...

    1.54
    1.53
    1.51
    1.56
    1.49
    1.52

Need I say more? Yeah, I guess so. So here's the numbers I got when I timed the shot using the normal criteria (upon the catch and again at the point of release)...

    .81
    .74
    .76
    .79
    .79
    .75
    .80

Don't spend DD's money all in one place, Clutch.

Post it up here with timestamp...I don't mind paying, but hopefully you are not using a video compression program that eliminates frames in order to allow for a smoother video stream.

And I can't see where we agreed on the perameters of the bet....I think we should both pay.....if at all.

Show your evidence young man, or should we just take your word for it???

Nope, not with a potential bet on the line.

thanks for all the info, DD. I'd like to know what a TNT or NBA Official would have to offer to this discussion.

I'm off to work, and then a Rockets game tonight...
