Yeah, I've seen the picture and it shows that the clock was started late. What it doesn't show us is whether it took him 0.8 to get the shot off. To determine that, you would need to see how long it took for the buzzer to go off after he released. As I said in my last post, it looks like the clock was about 0.3 late and that he released it with about 0.3 left on the clock. Therefore, I say it took about 0.8 seconds.

I saw that too and I seriously doubt that 1.6 is correct.

    it's not up to ESPN.

I say take it to the league and let them rule.

and for what it worth, the entire argument of clutchfans is moot, they're not changing a thing ( i would bet)

LOL - ok.....so they take the video which runs at 30 frames a second get an accurate reading...and you don't believe it...

Fine, you just want to argue...I get it.

Very very good idea. Even though it might not make much of a difference, please send a template of this in everyone.

Here's mine (which is a little modified version of yours)

    Dear NBA,

As a concerned NBA fan, I demand that the League reviews the last play of the Houston / Portland game. It is evident from the video that the Portland timekeeper does not start the clock until Roy clearly already has possession of the basketball.

This cannot be allowed to stand if the NBA cares at all about the integrity of the game. Please review this play and make the appropriate corrections in either a ) replaying the game for the last second or b) granting the Rockets the victory on a shot that was rightly released AFTER time expired.

    Regards,

    -Travis S.

TNT's display time is far from official time though. Find a shot of him with the ball & a shot clock where it hasn't started.

I don't believe you know what you are talking about....they timed it...you did not...when you present some evidence other than your mythicalogical belief that something took XXXX amount of time, maybe I will believe you but for now...I am chalking it up to you being obtuse and just wanting to argue the point about how long it takes to get a shot up...which....is not germaine to this discussion.

I don't want to argue, but I'm not going to agree to something I think is inaccurate. I'll throw it into Vegas tonight and do a frame by frame myself.

There's no doubt in my mind that Portland got a little home town sugar from the officials.

That said, you can't leave it up to the officials. If the Rockets weren't playing like crap it wouldn't have come to a last shot.

WHAT? It tied directly to the time clock.

    GOOD LORD PEOPLE !!

What do you think the refs look at on replay? Oh, that's right the TNT feed that shows the clock....UGH.

How much do you want to bet for the tipjar that from the minute he touches the ball to the minute he releases it is greater than .8 seconds?

Why would I bet that when I never said it? My statements were that it looks like "about 0.8 seconds" and that I "seriously doubt that 1.6 is correct".

I'll make a $10 bet to the tip jar that it's less than 1.6 seconds. I've got no problem with that.

i don't know about that. I'm thinking the official scorekeepers and timekeepers use their own system. the tnt feed, afterall, isn't available every night. would you go ahead and say that they use every local feed for reviewing non-televised games? I wouldn't.

but then again, I'm no expert and neither is anyone else here. there's no reason to demand that one opinion or take on the last play is the end-all be-all answer.

It blows my mind that an argument is occurring here between one side with an ESPN article discussing the time and photographic evidence and another side that simply says "I don't believe it."

I've decided that I don't believe Obama won the presidency.

It is a direct feed from the arena, that TNT uses......the clock is accurate on screen.....what the public sees is the same thing the referees see.

But you are arguing that you could see him getting it up in .8 seconds......and that is what it looked like to you....

So, if it is more than .8 you should lose the bet, right?
