that may be the worst call i've ever seen using instant replay. a complete screw job no matter who you're rooting for. i have many times seen an incorrect call upheld b/c the replay official didn't have the guts to overturn an obviously incorrect call, but i have never seen the correct call overturned to the incorrect call. not only was there not inconclusive proof that he touched it, it seemed inconclusive that he didn't touch it. the ball did not change direction at all and for the replay official to overturn it is just unbelievable. i don't care how stupid Chris is, he didn't touch it and it smacks of a replay official wanting to make a game out of what was about to be a blowout. terrible.
I know I've said this before... But to conclude that guy indisputably touched that ball -- the standard on replay -- is the worst call I've ever seen made in a sports game, ever. That's just a complete joke.
the replay official couldn't figure out a penalty to make up on that 4th down stop there? he's slipping.
Yup - the Holiday Bowl is always great entertainment. It would be sort of funny if ball boy, who can't have any positive impact on a football game, were to cost Texas: The Holiday Bowl The longest bowl winning streak in the nation The 7-year streak of 10-win seasons It would be quite the memorable night for him! (As you can see, I couldn't care less about the results of this game)
that's what i can't believe. i've seen so many calls upheld as if we need a notarized document from God himself stating that the call should be reversed, and then this call is overturned when it almost seems indisputable that he didn't touch the ball.
it seemed pretty obvious that he touched the ball with his thumb. as soon as the ball glances off his thumb, it takes on a different spin. if he didn't touch it, i would expect him to be livid on the sidelines, but he is instead resigned to the fact that he screwed up...
So there's another game on tv tonight? What you just described didn't happen. And if it did, it was far from obvious....Hopefully, it won't matter.
well that fake punt that we always run was huge, especially to call it just as the momentum was slipping away. and that personal foul was also nice for az st to give us.
Yeah, I said we'd fake it there, and we did. Do we ever run a different fake fg? I'd say that ASU should study tape, but maybe they did cuz they only gave up a yard or two on it. I've seen Texas run it in their own territory a lot, too.
Lets say he didn't touch it ... replay would and should confirm unsportsmanlike conduct for having all those people on the field and also illegal participation because of all the people on the field. Either way the end result would be the same half the distance to the goal.
Regardless, it should have been a penalty on Cleve Bryant (the black coach in the background). You can't have a coach 4 yards onto the field of play during a live ball that's no more than 10-15 yards away. The replay thing did seem weird, but the penalty should have been called live.
Regardless of what happened on that play, it makes the upcoming Mack Brown halftime interview Must See TV. How often does that get called? Seriously?
I agree that they could or should have called something live. What would it be? Would it be a sideline warning, or are those only between plays? Also, I've heard you get two warnings before a penalty is enforced. Not sure, cuz I"ve never seen it happen. It was a dumb play, and I agree that something could or should have been called. I just don't like HOW it was called- the refs saying that the dude definitely touched the ball. Anyhoo, hopefully it doesn't affect the final outcome.
