Wow some media types are blasting Jordan. They must be pissed off that he called them out by basically calling them haters, hahaha! Awesome.
Ehh, don't blame all that on Krause. It's true that Krause did feel like he was one of the main reasons the Bulls won. Krause probably put himself second behind Jordan, ahead of Pippen and Jackson. But Krause did not have enough power to break up that team, Jerry Reinsdorf wanted to break it up because the team was getting too expensive to keep together. Jordan and Jackson were in for like a 1 year mega deal, Pippen was either in for a 1 year mega deal or a long term contract, and I think Rodman expired too. That would have been one heck of a payroll if the team was brought back.
I linked Jordan's complete speech in the other thread but here it is: (and I'll ask here also, who's that hot chick in the red sitting in Jordan's camp? wow...) http://www.nba.com/video/channels/hall_of_fame/2009/09/11/nba_20090911_hof_jordan_speech.nba/ <script src="http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.element/js/1.1/xmp/module.js?vid=/video/channels/hall_of_fame/2009/09/11/nba_20090911_hof_jordan_speech.nba" type="text/javascript"></script><noscript>Embedded video from <a href="http://www.nba.com/video">NBA Video</a></noscript>
Reinsdorf was making cash cow money from that team and Jordan specifically. I don't think he'd blink an eye paying that money to continue the cash cow train. It was Jabba The Krause who told Jackson that it didn't matter if the team went 82-0 in 98, he was gone either way. And then brought his personal handpicked stooge to succeed PJ, Tim Floyd. It was "Crumbs" who said organizations win championships, and Reinsdorf sided with his GM.
Random HOF induction story, one of my friend's sister was in Springfield for the ceremony and got a drunken charles barkley to call my friend at 11 pm last night.
I just read Adrian Wojnarowski's Yahoo article bashing Jordan's speech...What a joke. I've never been a Jordan fanboy and there was nothing wrong with his speech last night. I'm amazed how he calls Jordan out for being a guy that can't let go of the past when he's sitting there criticizing Jordan for things he's done in the past.
Wojnarowski apparently doesn't understand who Michael Jordan was. His entire career was defined by remembering the past and using it as motivation to fuel his competitiveness.
Man, MJ is getting old. He sounds like one of the grandparents from the Nutty Professor. Does any have a transcript of the speech?
Take MJ at his word: he might play again. Morey, get-er done! I can't believe Malone wasn't there for Stockton-- or maybe I can. Illness in the family, eh?
Link to Adrian Wojnarowski's article: http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AsMNGfiIAQ5IolJPtVyk7gc5nYcB?slug=aw-jordanhall091209&prov=yhoo&type=lgns Yeah that speech personified what Jordan was all about. I can see Adrian's side but then again I saw it as classic Jordan talk. Competition and motivation is what drives MJ to this day, every time he talks. Yep, even Kings and Emperors had personality flaws.
I was living there at the time and after 1998, it was pretty clear the Bulls were done. They were completely out of gas mentally and physically. He didn't break up the Bulls - age did
Just watched it. I kept waiting for whatever people seem to be criticizing...and it didn't come. Wow - some people have some listening comprehension issues. That quite possibly couldn't have been any more benign than it was. Aside from the opening mention, I was expecting at least some short anecdote about Scottie Pippen. Though I guess that would make sense that he wouldn't be included in a speech about what drove him considering Scottie was more like the little brother who he molded to adopt his hard work.
It may be so but Krause did not even give them the benefit of a dignified out. He was already floating the name of Pink Floyd while they were in a championship run. Reindsdorf, of course, had a lot to do with it but the Bulls could still have made a lot of money had they decided to make one more run. I believe Krause contributed to their mental, physical and emotional fatigue. For a long period of time, even after the Bulls dynasty, Reinsdorf swallowed Krause's BS hook line and sinker. So there. Memo to the media: MJ can say anything he wants. He made the job of media hacks easier and more exciting during and after his basketball days so his media detractors can all go to hell.
MJ's speech was pedestrian. he rattled off a bunch of names/people he wanted to prove he's better than. like we dont know MJ could beat them, we need to sit through 20mins of him telling us? laughable. he had awkward moments, he had funny moments but the only thing that stuck out in my mind was, after all these years and his accomplishments, he still needs make a point that was was great. great player, douchey speaker
I guess I'm the only one who didn't like his speech. He could have got his point across (about folks motivating him) without calling people out by name. No need to say who he didn't invite, cuss during the speech, etc. I can sum of most of his speech with the 3 points below: A) X person dissed me in this manner B) That put a log into the fire C) Because of that, I was able to do this and I came out ahead...as you were able to see (insert laugh) It all came across as one last shot to tell everyone "you did this but I won". Maybe it's just me....
MJ has a boxer's mentality, and it came across in this speech. You could STILL see his eyes burning with passion, you could feel it coming through the TV set. All these years and time spent away from basketball did not quench his thirst to be the best. That is precisely why he is the Greatest.
I don't get the criticism by Wojnarowski. He claims Jordan called out JVG...where? And he claims he taunted his old high school coach - where???? And he also says he was bitter towards Isiah Thomas for freezing him out in the 1985 all-star game. WHERE??? I saw the speech, I didn't see any of this. What the F? His speech was fine. For Jordan, he was humble as I'd expect. He was genuine. He told some stories and admitted that everything that was said or done to him he used to motivate him. That was his key to success. He even said the media might have been right at the time...but it motivated him. That was what he was about. I don't think anything he said was a big deal. It was a HOF speech, nothing great, nothing bad.
