Obviously Shane has lost a step, but he can still play defense. I am not choosing Shane because of his defense. I say keep Shane for the team defense. He could assist in helping the others shore up their defense by giving pointers on how to do so. It was slightly obvious that the team played better defense when he was on the floor.
