I was under the impression that a hitting coach is going to have more of an effect on the young players than the veterans. And I remember him being largely credited to helping both Bourn and Pence in previous seasons. Well Pence still has little plate discipline but Bourn is another story. And Manzella was supposed to be another Everett anyways. So we got young players who, outside of Pence and Bourn, can't hit. And we have older players who, outside of Berkman, have never shown much patience at the plate. We probably need a miracle worker. That said I'd love to see a change in philosophy at the plate....and if getting a new hitting coach can provide that then so be it...but perhaps we need better players first.
