why would you waste 55 nukes on Germany? i'm sure your overwhelming use of DEEZ NUTZ references would surely render a quick surrender.
Well, you never know if they might crack or not, so the 55th nuke should just about do it. Of course, we could just take the country after the 55th nuke was dropped. Somehow, if that doesn't work, DEEZ NUTZ would bring them to quickly wave the white flag. *shrug*
I'm playing hook...er, home sick today and watching the History Channel. Earlier they had a documentary about Hitler's living relatives. I only caught the last few minutes of it, but they were saying that all of his still living relatives are childless. It's as if they have a plan to end his family tree. Can you imagine living with that burden all you life? Being a relative of Hitler?
Um that's quite eloquently put. And there's even a bit of truth in your statement. Invading Russia or no, Germany never would have had a chance because Hitler allowed their science program to stagnate. He didn't see the value in it, so despite the fact Germany was actually ahead the US in the science/arms race at the beginning of the war, the US got to the atom bomb first. The nukes would have dominated the Germans if we didn't already have them beat.
last i checked, June in russia is still the summer. Barbarossa was launched on June 22nd, 1941, when some 3M german soldiers crossed the frontier. there was a limited window of opportunity to launch a russian invasion, after the spring rains (muddy roads put a crimp in your blitzkreig), and before fall snows begin. they were nearly successful, bogging down just outside moscow.
Remember that although the Germans were prepared for winter in Russia, they weren't prepared for the worst winters Russia had seen in a number of years.
Don't forget that a number of Germany's brightest minds were Jewish, and they fled from Germany when Hitler began to rise to power in the 30s. These scientists played a large role in helping us build the atomic bomb (Einstein, etc).
yup. yamamoto was educated in the u.s. and had a better understanding of american culture and resolve than most of his counterparts, who thought we were weak and would not declare war.
ironically, it was his persecution of the jews which drove their top scientists like einstein into america. on a related note, i just left berlin today after spending about 4 days there. i went to the site where hitlers bunker was. there is no plaque there or any marker. its just an apartment building with a garden. anyway, i dropped a "wmd" of my own on it in the form of a nice brautwurst induced gassy discharge. also, walking around unter den linden (the main boulevard, which from the east goes right up the the brandenburg gate), most of the older buildings still have thousands of bullet marks in them from when the russians came. those street battles in the final days must have been unreal.
Ahhhh, Good ol "Tora Tora Tora." That is where the line came from. It is basically a nice rumor that grew in popularity. Very little factual basis, though.
Yep, you guys are completely right, and I stand corrected. Looks like I need to refresh my WWII history. Still, it was the winter that did the Germans in.
