Oh and you better do it quick. The first thing I would do if I was that person would be to get my car fixed ASAP.
I used to have an account with publicdata, but none of my passwords seem to work; it isn't very expensive to join up, and it will pay for itself on one or two dates.........it's lots of fun to look up people you and a girl mutually know to see what kind of criminal records they have. Anyhoo......even though you only have liability, your insurance agent might actually be able to help in determining who owns the car and if they are covered with their own insurance. I wouldn't depend on the police too much.
Exact same thing happened to me not too long ago. I chased the guy a bit...called 911 on the cell giving them the license number. They told me to stop and said they'd send a police car to where I was. I waited about 20 minutes, and of course they never showed up. So I drove the police station and filed a report. I was told that the guy who hit me would be sent something in the mail...and that if he didn't respond, they would pay him a visit. Nothing has happened.
Have you tried calling your insurance company? I was in a circumstance where someone hit my parked car and they did not have insurance. Someone clued me in to check and see if uninsured motorist was written in my policy. Even though i had liability insurance, they still paid ... BUT I had to press the issue with the insurance company. If you have a good agent, check with them. Their primary goal is to keep you as a customer, not trying to find a way out of getting paid. I had to use my agent to give me the details on how to handle the insurance company.
Insurance companies don't care. Thats why you use agents. Agents get paid as long as you continue to be a customer, not preventing claims.
FYI Fatty...a hit and run is not a Physical Damage claim. That falls under uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. Check your policy and see if you have that coverage. If you do, then file the claim and your carrier will probably help track down the driver. If you don't, you're out a few grand. Good luck and that sucks
I didn't have time to read all of the posts, but Fatty you should probably contact your lawyer and have him report the hit and run. Maybe even arrange for you to turn yourself in peacefully. Ask your lawyer to order a blood alcohol content so you can prove you were under the legal limit. Good luck.
I had someone hit me and run - I didn't get any plates - just the make/model/color. Not to mention, I was in the middle of the barrio - I wasn't going to stick around and wait for the cops to show up. I called the police and filed the report, then gave the report number to my insurance company. My agent called me back within 48 hours and told me that it'd actually be cheaper (for me) to file uninsured motorist rather than hit-and-run.
Shut up, moron. How about just reading the first post? I'm absolutely amazed that it would be difficult to press charges at least civilly against someone in a hit and run if you have their license plate #.
I disagree with that. Especially since you can include court costs in the suit. I'd rather not deal with that part. I'm guessing if I can locate this girl, I can get her insurance information. The infuriating part is that I hardly ever park on the street. The only reason I parked there yesterday rather than in my garage was that I left the door opener in my house.
FFB, I have an account with publicdata.com, email me the license plate # and I'll look up the info on the person and you can take Pole's advice.
I read the first post and up yours if you can't take a joke. As if I'm the only person who had the same thought when they read your thread title. You're getting off easy. It probably wasn't an accident anyway.
FFB's emailing you, so you might want to consider editing your post and losing the email address. Just a thought.
