Interesting. An obvious mistake was pointed out, people went on 3 pages to reply. Half people claim nobody cares, another half claim a win is more important. If someone curses me for no reason, 99.99999...% people in the world wouldn't give a damn; if your employer put a wrong name on your badge, still most of people won't care, maybe except for you, but what's wrong is still wrong. On a forum for Rockets team, I would have thought maybe a few people might just be objective enough to say, that IS a mistake. But who am I kidding? Yao is hurt, and in the eyes of many, he's done. So, who cares?
Why are you trying to make this seem like it's about not appreciate Yao? I love Yao, but if he doesn't give a s**t, why should I? And by the way, you should have said Ming.
I am not trying. I am saying what I see. He can be called Ming, or Yao, or Yao Ming, or Ming Yao, or Big Yao, or whatever nickname you want to. That wasn't the point. The point was the official NBA.com lists players by Official Surnames, and in the format of Official Surname-comma-Official Given Name. Then, Yao was listed as Ming, Yao, which indicates NBA.com believes Yao's Surname is Ming. That is a mistake, whether Yao cares or not, whether you care or not. It's been 8 years, and it's still wrong, that is quite comic. No, you don't need to care. But what I find odd is, someone cared and brought that up, so many people jumped up and down and tried so hard to tell him that he shouldn't care. I mean, why? You said you don't give a s**t, but obviously you gave a lot of s**t about someone else give a damn. Why are people trying so hard to try to dictate what others think or care?
No problem calling him Yao Ming in spoken language, which is prefered. But that's different from Y. Ming, or Mr. Ming, especially in writing. Another point is he is playing in the U.S., not in China, so I don't see any problem writing his name as M. Yao, like Steven Chu, I. M. Pei, Jacky Chan, Hideki Matsui, Chan Ho Park, etc. Getting another person's name right (both spoken and written) is just basic manner, whether that person cares or not.
OK, I have a similar complaint, señores. I am sure this has been pointed out numerous times! NBA.com or Yahoo.com simply got it wrong when they list Eduardo Najera as Najera Eduardo alongside players like Pau Gasol, Carlos Arroyo, Greivis Vazquez, or Ginobli, etc. as if he were not Mexican. Actually in the official NBA website, he's listed Mexican, in the M section along with, well, no one... But he is really Mexican!!! He was born in MEXICO!!! 111 million know he's Mexican, because in Mexican customs, Mexicans (actually anyone) are put in front of the line of fire (drug lord fights and such). This might sound weird but maybe Speedy Gonzalez and Cantinflas are worshipped more in Mexico?! You would expect respectable organizations like NBA and Yahoo, or Team Mexico can get this simple fact straight!!! It shows a lack of respect or basic understanding of cultural backgrounds! In Mexico, there is an old saying "¡Arriba, arriba, ándale, ándale, ándale!!!! ¡Yeeee-haaaa!!!!", and hence the population cannot be fruitful! Maybe that's why the team has been suffering so many setbacks in the past few years?! Finally, can this site launch a petition to get this corrected, por favor?!!!
