FatPat was murdered out front of a promoters apartment. He was trying to collect money that was owed to him for a show he preformed. He had no drugs and a small amount of money. The debtor wasn't even home or expecting Pat. he was essentially killed by a person who just wanted to make a name for himself. I.E. "street cred" Hawk, basically suffered the same untimely and completely unprovoked, inexplicable death.

Might as well have asked: Pick anyone of these: [ ] Is the Pope Catholic? [ ] Are the Utah Jazz dirty? [ ] Is Kobe Bryant a taunting, arrogant, b*tch? And they all could have been chosen.
Is a bullfrog waterproof? Does a bear crap in the woods? Does Dolly Pardon sleep on her back? Is Charles Barkley fat?
Uhm, I HIGHLY beg to differ. It's funny how well educated this thread is in it's hip hop/street knowledge. There's too many inaccuracies to address all at once but this one stuck out in particular so I'll address it. Artest or any other ball player who came up from poverty and "ghetto" conditions couldn't just walk through any local hood/ghetto with their jewelry on, bentley on the curb candy painted on big boy rims, and not expect to get rocked. There is always someone jealous of your fame. Someone who HATES the fact that you made it out and they didnt. That type of anger, passion, and agression is escalated when your in an environment such as a low poverty neighberhood. This leads to gangs, violence, drug peddling, etc. All in an effort to achieve freedom from the captivity that is the environmental conditions known as a "ghetto". I've lived in bad parts of houston as well as bad parts of Chicago, and still maintain friendships with many guys affiliated with the street life. We all played basketball together and I DJ'd houseparties and other events for them as well as went on to DJ some events in downtown Chicago with pro ball players. Unless the "gang" or neighberhood you go to is your family, and your protection area, your not going there. Your smarter then that. Antoine Walker, Tony Allen, Eddy Curry and various other NBA ball players who grew up around here and prescribed to various neighberhoods and blocks don't go back there, because this idea of "being respected, cherished, and appreciated as a hood member who made it" is a fantasy. The reality of it is that you are in essence, bringing your lavish lifestyle and slapping your former neighbors with it, and they have no chance/means of achieving what you have unless they take it. Even Derrick Rose, who's brothers ran with various Chicago outfits, kept D out of those networks, and when he finally got on the the NBA stage and signed a contract, his family wrapped up and moved out. I remember him even on an interview saying how difficult it was for him not to ride through his block anymore, knowing these people used to be his friends, classmates, neighbors but knowing that now it wasn't safe to go back regardless of how he felt about them, there'd be someone lurking always envious and willing to harm. Yeah Ron still got hood respect, everybody looks at him like he's a G, don't take no **** from no one, willin to clap on somebody if need be, but that all is deaded if Ron ron goes local and tries to game on some dudes who run the block. Ain't happenin. Big difference between givin someone respect from a distance, and then doin it from up close. And as for the "70% of rap music is bought by white/suburban kids", thats 100% true or at least the percentage is up there. But the alarming fact of that is that even 70% of the rappers/hip hop artists putting music out these days are story tellers, telling fictional tales and fabricating music to make money. It's fake meets fake 101.
