DALLAS — A man suspected of killing four people and injuring four others in an overnight rampage is reportedly a former member of a popular all-male Dallas Mavericks cheer team.

Erbie Bowser, 44, was arrested by police outside a home in DeSoto, a bedroom community just south of Dallas. According to the Dallas Morning News, Bowser threw a hand grenade into the living room of the DeSoto home before shooting and killing two women inside. He also wounded two boys, ages 11 and 13, before running out of bullets.

A neighbor in DeSoto, Tommy Johnson, told The Associated Press that he heard a loud boom on Wednesday night coming from the direction of the home where the victims were later found.

“We thought it was coming from upstairs, because the kids are always upstairs making noise,” Johnson said. “I went up and asked, 'Did y'all hear anything?' and one of my daughters said it came from outside. So I peeped out the front, and that's when I saw a bunch of officers walking down the sidewalk and about 10 houses up.”

Before the DeSoto shooting, police say they believe Bowser shot up a home in southwest Dallas where two people were killed and two were wounded. The Dallas Morning News reported authorities believe Bowser's intended targets on Wednesday might have been a former girlfriend and his estranged wife. The newspaper reports Bowser has previous arrests for violating a protective order and evading arrest. The identities of the victims killed on Wednesday had not been officially released as of Thursday morning.

The Dallas Morning News and WFAA-TV reported that Bowser was a former Mavs ManiAAC, a hip-hop dance troupe of beefy guys who entertain fans at Dallas home basketball games.

A Facebook page belonging to an Erbie Bowser from Dallas includes promotional Mavs ManiAAC photos posted in 2009 and 2011. An old bio on a Mavericks webpage lists Bowser (nicknamed “E-Luv”) as being 6-foot-7, 399 pounds and employed as a special education teacher.

An official with a Dallas-area school district told the Dallas Morning News that Bowser taught there for nearly nine years before leaving on good terms in 2010.

“From what I understand, he was a very likeable guy,” Laura Jobe, an administrative officer for the Mesquite ISD, told the newspaper. “He was described to me as a gentle giant; never anything violent about him. In fact, just the opposite.”

What a terrible story. Please, Clutchfans, refrain from making jokes about Mavs fans in this thread.

I think these 3 things took a toll on him:

    1. The name Erbie Bowser
    2. Being close 4 Bills in weight
    3. Being a dancer weighing 4 Bills

Now if those children only had grenades to stop Erbie, then more people have survived. Because the only thing that can stop a bad guy with a grenade is a good guy with a grenade.

Wow, from the sounds of things, the grenade isn't even what did any of the killing/injuring? The article seems to indicate that he shot and killed four people, and shot and injured four others... Was it just a flash grenade or something?

Desoto is not a safe area. My grandparents moved there back in the 70s and stayed until they passed away 4 or 5 years ago. You could hear gunshots at night sometimes and a couple people were shot at the carwash by their house. This is sad.

Here's a photo of the house in DeSoto. It looks like a nice neighborhood. Apparently he went to from one house to the other looking for his girlfriend.

Man, what's your problem? All he was commenting on was your likelihood to commit a quadruple-homicide and shoot children! Gosh!
