That one thread with people justifying Bruno Fernando starting over Al-P will always be hilarious. Gold mine of bad takes

    • "Not worth the trouble..."
    • "Jalen Green is the only untouchable player..."
    • Every damn Alperen trade proposal for every player that ever existed was slapped on the front page of CF.
    • Mo Bamba. Myles Turner. Nic Claxton. Bruno Fernando. On and on...
The last couple of years I have spent 90% of my time on Clutchfans arguing for a Princeton-esque system with Alperen Sengun touching the ball more than anyone else, with KPJ, JG and Jabari in off-ball roles, even If they are leading the team in shots. An Adelman-esque system that is inverted.

Hours and hours and hours arguing... Thank you Ime Udoka for validating this thought process, and invalidating all the Alperen Sengun naysayers.

The thing l can not blame anyone getting negatives on Sengun at the beginning, cause most American basketball fans have stereotype player of athleticism, high volume 2pt/3pt scoring, jumping, dunking guard mentality. But they forget one thing, basketball means basketball iq and fundamentals. From day 1, Sengun was the best player in 2021 draft and for two years, Silas, FO, most fans undervalued him for what? Undersized, bad on defense blah blah blah..
He is and he will be the best nearest thing to Jokic- l dont say he will become Jokic, Jokic has more strength and more concrete 3 pt shot- and Jokic is world's best player last 4-5 years.
If he achieves %10 of Jokic and he already did that, he is allstar.
If %40, top 20 NBA player.
If %50, this makes him superstar of 5-6 player.

absolutlely! Patiently waiting for the next scrub big back up to eat alpi’s minutes. The hustler jock landale will eat alpi’s minutes. Yeah, right. If a sof said something like that he would be blamed for rooting against the team.

Don't get amnesia. Alpi could not stop fouling his rookie year and even in his sophomore year had occasional issues.

No amnesia. I wonder how many of those fouls wouldn't have occured if he wasn't having to constantly contest shots by perimeter players who were allowed to waltz into the paint.

No need to dwell on the past though. He suddenly has become a very non-foul heavy player. I'm sure it's only because he just decided to stop fouling though and hasn't been influenced by other things such as perimeter defenders actually trying to stop people getting into the paint now.

But you right. A fouling Alpi definitely should've been behind WCS - that lob threat tho!

I feel like throwing up when I see this guy’s name. Want to make peace since he did eat a crow farm, including the bird poop. It will take time it is still instinctive for me.

We all know Alperen doesnt need any kindness, actually he needs exactly nothing from Clutch. However Clutch will need Alperen since he is here for a looooooong time.

Rookies, young players, have never gotten a fair whistle. It does also take time for new players to understand what's called and isn't called.

Also newsflash, we still funnel players to the rim but Alpi has made massive leaps in closing and staying upright. You can't deny growth.

And yes, I thought a rim running lob threat would be great alternative, adding a dimension to what we had, when combined with our youthful running guards.

Even today, I think we lack that dimension and would be nice to have a "Claxton or Lively" style of player as a backup over someone like Landale. I think there are certain backup lineups that would take a leap with that dimension.

I like how in almost every thread someone says the FO didn't value Alperen, when they traded to draft him. #persecutioncomplex

Perhaps we should value that the Rockets drafted and developed him when 10+ other teams passed over him.

I mean, we went over this 100 times. Why would drafting mean developing someone properly, or as he deserved? Compared to what these players showed on the court, rockets devoted much more resources and effort to develop Green and KPJ(doesn't mean they did a good job, but their intention was to develop these two into stars) compared to Sengun, to the point to push him out of the starting line-up. It has nothing to do with drafting him.

One may not agree with this view and think that all was in some acceptable boundaries but it is not some sort of complex, but quite a valid point. it is a fact that rockets allocated resources to the development of Green and KPJ, cutting from other players including Jabari and Sengun who quickly turned out to be the better players once we have new coaching.

Obviously the Rockets FO valued Alperen to some extent by trading up to draft him at 16, however, you can't possibly tell with a straight face that the Rockets FO valued him as much as they should have in his first 2 years.

Dude is putting up all-star numbers in his 3rd year on above .500 team and he was benched a year ago so KPJ can have his lob threat.

I believe everyone who was not a doubter was saying he was Baby Hakeem after his first year....

The Jokic comparisons came much later.....

Do we really need any more denigration in this forum? We all have bad takes. We all guess wrong sometimes. No need to spread any more animosity or I told you sos. Having a better team should be all that matters. Who cares if your player performed better than some Joe Schmo thought wouldn’t be a thing?
