Sometimes people just need a change of scenery. Had he stayed, he might never have gotten close to the kinds of numbers hes putting up now. Let it go man, just let it ho
we'll see how long he keeps himself on the right path. Regardless, we had invested tons and received back nothing... maybe worse than nothing. A total lack of respect and drive to improve himself. A complete lack of desire to play and obviously some serious personal issues. I wish him the best, except when he plays us. Good riddance...
There are two possible answers to any thread that suggests we go back in time and give Eddie Griffin one more chance. 1. We can't go back in time. 2. If we could go back in time, why stop at the point where he fired the gun? Go back all the way to draft day, keep Richard Jefferson, and use the other two first-round picks.
Why oh why hasn't anybody made this argument in the EG discussions before? BTW, I don't get the hind sight is 50/50, can you explain that DaneB?
1. We tried to trade him. No one wanted to touch him. 2. He did get a second chance. He skipped the workouts and practices, remember? 3. Blame JVG for everything. You're getting too predictable
you're too smart to make a ridiculous comment like this. You know that's not what he meant. Personally I think almost not having an NBA job helped turn him around more than a change of scenery.
so what is this thread about? all i've gathered from reading all these posts is: 1. EG is playing back up PF for the Wolves while we have 4 useless ones and he would have just been another useless PF 2. Houstonians are madmen 3. JVG sucks because he don't put up with headcases that don't like being responsible for their own actions 4. Hindsight is arguably 50/50 or 20/20...depending on whether or not it is used as a percentage value or a vision value.
We needed a mentor for Eddie. Over his "hiatus" he worked with John Lucas who also had his share of problems he got over. In Minny, he had a prep school star take him under his wing and pretty much be a brother figure. Those are HUGE to Eddie: he fell apart once his brother passed, and that void was filled somewhat by both Lucas and KG. If anything, I blame the Rockets for not implementing a system where the players are allowed to grow and fluorish. We can't expect everyone to come into the league with the maturity of LeBron James. Some of them will need some extra watching over and mentoring to help them achieve their full potential. This isn't coddling the palyers, it's helping them develop.
As is your usual lack of contribution, or rather whine about posts rather than provide useful diatribe.
There was no reason to cut him, they could have kept him all year, as we had to pay him anyway. Perhaps his value would have continued to decline, perhaps not. Teams at trading deadlines take more chances. My point is that to simply cut him outright when we still had to pay him was dumb. I also think CD and JVG share the blame. DD
GREAT POST, and what I have been saying since the day we drafted him. The Rockets did not provide an adequate support system for a troubled talented youth, AND, they should have because it was in their best interests to do so. DD
OK, I have a question for DaDakota and the rest of the "Poor Eddie" cult: So what if he's playing good now. Is there ANYTHING you folks can point to in his game NOW that would justify using THREE No. 1 PICKS to get him? BTW, they didn't need to get EG a mentor or nanny or bodyguard or surrogate mommy. All he "needed" was to get kicked out of the league and come face to face with the reality that getting paid MILLIONS to play a game is FAR better than having to get a real job and work for a living. Suddenly, it seems that he wasn't so "depressed" after all...
Hillboy, Perhaps you are right, perhaps he did have to be kicked out to get to this point, but I guess we will never know, perhaps he would have reached this point after being suspended from the team.... And, NO he was not worth 3 picks....never was, never will be. That is also a big CD foul up. DD PS. Jim Jackson got in trouble for waving a gun at another motorist, but we embrace him now...
Based on the current price, he was a great pick up for Minny. Would I like to have his production and potential back? Yes. Is his head screwed on right yet? Who knows. He may always be one girlfriend away from self destructing. Did we do the right thing in cutting him loose? Yes.
