AND, that's with a ton of teams using 2 backs these days. I've never understood why 1000 yards means anything. It's basically 63 rushing yards per game, which no one thinks is particularly impressive.

Without bothering to look up stats, Hillis didn't do it with a full workload as the feature back. He basically got the role because of injuries and poor performance and made the most of it. Since taking over he has been fairly dominant, it's not like he was rushing for 63ypg all year.

In today's NFL, I think 1,000 speaks more to staying healthy and being consistent than doing anything spectacular. While 1,000 yards may not mean you are breaking big runs on a weekly basis, it more than likely means that you stayed relatively healthy and gave a solid effort each week.

To clarify, I'm not really referring to Hillis, though he won the full-time job in Week 3. But it's also only week 13, so we're not talking about a full season yet. Hillis will end up around 1300 or 1400 yards.

I'm referring to the generic idea of rushing for 1000 yards in a 16 game season, and the big deal people make over that accomplishment.

Just goes to show that even a white guy can run for 1000 yards with a good OL.
