With the advancements in training and building the body, a person no matter what color they are, if they put in the extreme hard work they can make themselves into an athlete. It blurs the ethnic lines.

Running back is still a position of toughness, durability, dependability, as much as it is about shiftiness and speed. There's some white wide receivers and plenty tight ends, not sure why running back is so surprisingly different. There will be more to follow Hillis in later years.

It doesn't matter how hard you work you aren't running 4-3 40 without god given talent.

Hillis is an incredible story. Third-string-RB/FB at Arkansas (and 7th round pick) behind Darren Mcfadden and Felix Jones (both first round picks) but he's now putting up better than stats than either of them.

    Hillis 962 yards rushing, 11TD's
    Mcfadden 870 yards rushing, 5TD's
    Jones 531 yards rushing, 0TD's

White for QB, Black for RB.

    Stereotyping 101.

It is the old stereo type, that you want a white guy as your QB, and a black guy as your RB.

It is still there...that is my point...not much has changed.

    Zing.

Mike Alstott of the Buccaneers had 949 yards in 1999. That's the closest any other white dude has come, just off the top of my head.

Oh OK, understood. I don't think that stigma is as strong in the QB ranks anymore but it is still prevalent in the RB ranks but I'd say it is slowly coming down.

Right. I'm saying football is slightly different from other sports in that you can make yourself into a better player through hard weight training. Then, the RB position does not absolutely require top flight speed to succeed. Speed DOES help, but its not the end all-be all or Justin Fargas would be the best back in the league.

Like Eddie George, he had decent speed for his size but wasn't a burner. He was a solidly built guy that held up well physically and could churn out CONSISTENT yards. He was everything else in running back BESIDES blazing fast. Steven Jackson, same thing.

Basically working out like Brian Cushing can help close the gap.

Yeah. He was splitting carries with Warrick Dunn. He was technically the fullback, but he still got a ton of carries. I guess that's the way it goes when Trent Dilfer is your QB.

Steroids are very helpful in closing the gap.

I'm hoping to catch that one at some point.

Damn, hate that I missed that one. That one and the 2Pac-Tyson one were the only ones I wanted to watch.

Is it just me or is 1,000 yard rushing not that big of a deal anymore? With 3 games left in the season you have 10 running backs over 1,000 yards already and another 20 who could realistically reach the milestone over the next three games. It just seems like the market is overinflated with 1,000 yard backs.
