Exactly. A writer for the Dallas Morning News made that exact point when Dirk got hurt against San Antonio. Everyone said that Dirk should just go ahead and play, but the writer made the comparison to Grant Hill and said that it wasn't worth risking Dirk's career for the series... I think the article was written by Kevin Blackistone, in case anyone is interested in looking it up...
There were a couple more like that, too, from the ESPN and Orlando Sentinel crowd, the latter obviously having experienced Hill firsthand.
I really would like to see Hill make a comeback - he has an awe-inspiring talent for basketball. I think that the best thing for Hill would be (if this is possbile) to take an indefinite leave or a hiatus. Just rest and rehab that ankle until it's 100%, and the game feels good again. I don't think he should retire - I'm sorry, but at 31, a player with his talent still has a lot of years ahead of him. Kevin Willis and John Stockton *yuk* played strong and competitively 'til they were pushing 40. If he could just leave basketball for as much time as he needs to heal, and then re-emerge, I believe he could turn a lot of heads (again). ... or maybe I'm just on crack -- droxford
