I've seen guys get arrested for doing less. Let's face it. The video doesn't have everything, so who knows what was done leading up to his tantrum. Apparently, it was bad enough to draw attention from the police. The guy was not willing to cooperate and was resisting the entire time. He could have gotten a baton upside head, but he didn't. He was resisting on the ground while being pinned or else they would have allowed him to stand. They apparently needed for him to taste 25,000 volts of "Control yourself". I can accept that everyone doesn't agree, but you can't say that this moron complied. He made a scene all through it and I was ready for the zap when it happened. When he responded by sounding like a 12-year just humiliated by his mother at a mall just after he passed the hottest girl in school by licking her fingers and wiping his mouth. Bro of Bro is a public crybaby.
Also, if you read the whole story, you see that the student group sponsoring the event asked the police to escort him out. The police didn't just step in to remove him on their own. If you want to place blame, start with the sponsoring group summoning the police. They were the ones that prevented Kerry from answering his questions, not the police.
What's even scarier is that he travelled through time from back when he was a kid. He just kinda wandered off like his identity had been exposed. "OWWW OWWW OOOOOOOWWWWWW Look it's Screech!!!" "Oh ****!?!?! Maybe I'll just hide behind this wall" "OOOOW OOW OW OW OOOOOOW"
You could say that anytime the police overstep their bounds. Blame the person/group that summoned them. Regardless of who asked the police to get involved, it doesn't excuse tasering this person when there are multiple cops on top of the guy. And for the record, I'm not excusing the guy's actions either. He should've gone peacefully. But that doesn't mean he deserved to be tasered.
i have a hard time believing that 5 cops were not able to subdue some 20 year old kid w/out the use of a taser. i have a pretty high tolerance for pain, but if i got tasered i would probably scream like a girl too and i would wager that most of my fellow posters would as well.
and thats exactly your problem. you are automatically eliminating the guy from the situation which only leaves room to criticize the police...how convenient. But in fact, the guy WAS part of the situation. It is about him, because he was the one not complying. i dont get why people are against him being tazered....did they have to stun him? nah. they could have continued to wrestle with him and trying to restrain him for another couple of minutes, which oddly enough would increase the chances for injury...both to himself and the cops. Tazer is a great tool and should be used. Its what its for. if you gonna act like a biatch...you will get tazed like a biatch.
I have higher standards for those enforcing the law. I'd hope they'd act more maturely and professionally than a 21 year-old kid. But that's just me.
I was mainly responding to the perception that the police would not allow Kerry to answer the question because they took the guy away. Kerry was not allowed to answer the question, because the sponsoring organizatrion asked that the guy be taken away.
Agreed. I couldn't help but laugh at the "Don't tase me, bro". And his screaming reminded me of Private Pyle in "Full Metal Jacket" after he got waylayed by all the other privates with soaps in their towels.
it was kinda similar sounding. what even makes it worse is that he knew it was coming and still didnt do what they were telling him. what a tard.
Can people who are against the tasering please describe how you would have handled the situation? Would you have just sat on top of him for a couple more minutes (or hours?) and let him continually shout for the remainder of the forum? Would you have used more manual force like putting your knee in his back with more weight to try and get him in handcuffs? Or would you have just not gotten on top of him at all and struggle around the auditorium with him for another couples of minutes prolonging the ordeal? Maybe since he was making it so difficult you would have let him continue to shout, ruin the remainder of the forum, and then walk out the front door when he decided he was done with his diatribe? This "kid" was by no means big, but he wasn't small either. You can clearly see he's bigger than most of the police officers in the video, and some of them were women. I'm sure the police would have greatly preferred to walk him out peacefully or even forcefully without using the taser, but it wasn't working. Just trying to get an idea why anyone would even care that this guy got tasered. There's no racism (the dude was a preppy white kid), he was by no means innocent since he was pushing cops...I just don't see any reason to be even remotely outraged by this. Anyway, the jokes on us. --------------------- http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/09/18/student.tasered.ap/index.html The story A university student with a history of taping his own practical jokes was Tasered by campus police and arrested after loudly and repeatedly trying to ask U.S. Senator John Kerry questions during a campus forum. Andrew Meyer, 21, spent a night in jail before his release Tuesday morning. His attorney, Robert Griscti, did not return messages seeking comment. Videos of the Monday night incident, posted on several Web sites and played repeatedly on television news, show officers pulling Meyer away from the microphone after he asks Kerry about impeaching President Bush and whether he and Bush were both members of the secret society Skull and Bones at Yale University.
The cops could have mistaken him for Tim Tebow...in which case a taser would've been useless. He would've taken all five cops down while bullets bounce off of him. (Yes, Tim Tebow is the next Chuck Norris!) Anyways, I'm ashamed this crap had to happen at my school. Aside from the 'tase', I think this kid was probably pretty happy with the results. He got exactly what he wanted (clearly evident by his rambling at the mic). Maybe he wanted to get his name out there for a job. I bet TMZ will hire him.
I dunno, but it's pretty sad when you have a guy on the ground with several cops hovering over him and you still need to use a taser. And because he videotapes practical jokes, he deserves this? Or do you think it was set up? I'm really not all that outraged, it just seemed stupid and unnecessary. The UCLA thing last year was a lot worse. Cops who act like that are the reason why so many people have bad attitudes towards them. They could've easily led him out of the building without the use of the taser. At least that's what it seems on the video.
Just in case people have completely forgotten, this 'kid' is a 'journalism' student (translation: flaming radical wannabe socialist) and first and foremost wants to become a 'big star' in the celebrity blogger world, or whatever passes for his kind of social circle. It was a publicity stunt, and it worked perfectly. He got his name and his face all over tv everywhere, and now, whenever he does or says something, he stands an actual chance of people actually remembering who the little weasel is. You can't BUY that kind of publicity. I am sure his daddies are so proud.
that is generally the way it was done. again, i have a really hard time believing that 5 cops couldnt get cuffs on the guy and carry him out. the tasering was unnecessary.
I think the man is fortunate to get tasered. Imagine if he were an Asian Giant Hornet getting burned to death by a swarm of Japanese honey bees. Thermal death I say! 5 cops could have very well made him explode if they did the same tactical measure! Taser away!
