This thread reads to me like the people who are getting most worked up about this are getting worked up because they think people shouldn't be getting worked up about it. Yeah, it's just a video game. Yeah, it's at least a little bit sexist. These concepts can, I believe, coexist.
See, this is my problem. I don't exactly understand how it is considered sexist. Sexism can be defined as both discrimination based on gender and the attitudes, stereotypes, and the cultural elements that promote this discrimination. If there was an argument being made over the fact that the princess portrayed in this game is a helpless, weak woman who is being dominated by men as if she were their chattel, then I could understand how someone could say the game is sexist. However, the outrage over the game seems to stem from the fact that the princess is fat. Promotion of negative stereotypes and a discriminatory mindset toward the obese? Maybe. Sexist? Hardly.
what a load of self righteous drivel. I find this deeply offensive and I demand an apology ... or i'm going to start crying
LOL - wait nevermind I'm not laughing, I'm actually sad. No wait, I don't know how I feel anymore. Isabel - surely you are just pulling our leg and don't actually think & live the way you post?
OK, honestly guys, help me out for a minute. I know there are differences of opinion here. I can understand those who think it's only a video game. Or those who think that overweight people need to do something about it and diet and exercise; true to a point, just saying that the pounds come off easier for some than others, and that I don't think making fun of it will solve everyone's problems. But anyway... what's everybody trying to say here? I know I've always been a little too serious for everybody, but I didn't expect these kind of responses...
There was a good post by somebody in a D&D thread several weeks ago about overweight people and those who make fun of them. It really put it in perspective for a lot of posters who read it there.
This is exactly what is wrong with the world. They took away dodgeball in school because kids couldn't take being "out." They took away tag in school beecause the thought of being "it" gave the fat kids anxiety. For a world that is suppossed to be progressing, we sure are making a lot of excuses for why someone can't do something. Competition is what makes everyone better, it's why we're fans of the Rockets, it's why we make money or don't make very much, and it's why some make better grades than others. For someone to make an excuse as to why they can't do something that they can work at is laziness. Everyone is dealt a different set of cards. We work with what we have. The fatty whose "metabolism is slow" is probably smarter than the jock. The jock has to work harder at his standardized tests. Why can't the fatty work harder at losing some weight? This socialistic "walk in the fatty girls shoes" is dumb. I bet it is hard for a girl with a weight problem. She can go ahead and make herself feel better by making her excuses as to why she is fat, but will it really help her? She still will be fat, not have a bf, and have people poke fun at her. It's how the world works. But at the same time she is willing to make excuses rather than take the extra effort it takes to shed the lbs. She won't go the extra mile to get to her goal, which is slovenly.. That's what seperated winners from losers. Sure people shouldn't poke fun at a real fat person, but should the world have to tiptoe around a subject that is an everyday occurence in a video game? Everyone has their weaknesses and strengths. You have to do the best with what you have. Making excuses for your situation in life, when you have some say in it, is the worst disservice you could ever do to yourself. Some people have it harder than others, or it might be that some might just try harder.
Yep this happens. The Wii Fit acts like a scale and when you enter your age and height it computes your BMI and tells you you are "overweight" (it has yet to use the word fat, but maybe I am not overweight enough). It adjusts your Mii accordingly. I am not THAT much overweight but when I step on the Wii Fit, it emits a kind of groan.
It was Major Malcontent in this thread. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=150218&page=1&pp=20
I have yet to see one in a store. A good friend of my son's is the manager at a GameStop and they occasionally get some in (2 at a time), so he got one for us.
Not that I really look but I have not seen any myself when I view the video game catalogs at stores. Wow, just 2 at a time huh? That sucks.
Raising the post count, eh, Lil Pun? For all those of you chubby chasers, there's only one site: bellies and boobs dot blogspot dot com. NEW POSTS!
