That's a very valid point. But let's not forget: we're in "WIN NOW" mode. When you're trying to win now, who is the bigger liability? The coach whose system the players don't get? Or the players, primarily your two star players? Wen you're in win now mode, you don't fire the coach that brough a talent-deprived team to 52 wins and then run out of gas in the playoffs. That was Les Alexander's mistake right there when he let personal bias get in the way of business.
Try to run a business where you can't fire your subordinates who makes more money than you, then come back and comment how to run an NBA team.
Rick has the ability to slow the game down to suit his players. Really this is what he is going to have to do. He's going to have to slow this game down and make the scores run in the 70's and 80's for us to have a chance.
Whooo Hoooo! Welcome to a new faster exciting brand of basketball!!! Aren't you guys jumping up and down for joy yet???
I have. I fired a High Performing Loan Officer that worked for me and he made more money than me. He worked on commission and did real well the last few years due to the Real Estate Boom in California. Does that make it better?
You couldn't trade him to Bank of America? How many years of guaranteed salary did you have to pay him to cut him? I'm sure it was painful bringing in minimum wage Joe because the payout to Californication kept you over the bank salary cap.
We all upset but this is seriously untrue That team got JOBBED big time by the Refs and Lakers one year esle they would have had a ring Rocket River
Look, I understand that my business is not EXACTLY run like an NBA Franchise. Don't worry Morey, I am not interviewing for your position. As my original post, I was just trying to put some semblance on this debacle called the Houston Rockets. I was putting my 2 cents to a situation that is UNIVERSAL to any service industry INCLUDING the entertainment sector, and that is CUSTOMER SERVICE IS PERCEPTION. The Rox franchise is alienating it's customer base by not addressing these service failures especially the PERCEPTION that it's employees are not giving 100% effort. I don't know what the average ticket price is in Houston but LA is definitely above average. If the consumer doesn't feel he/she is getting full value, then their are other alternatives for their wallet. There is a reason why the LA population is so "bandwagon" driven, it's because if a team is not performing, then their are NUMEROUS alternatives for other forms of entertainment. Cities like Utah or Sacramento, which have more "hardcore" fans have limited entertainment choices and so packs the arena night in and night out regardless of the team's performance. And you brought up the elephant in the room - guaranteed contracts. In my opinion, this is the basis for all the negative perception of professional sports (EXCEPT FOOTBALL which doesn't have it). Fans will always question a player's drive because of this issue. If McGrady wasn't making x million in guaranteed money but is paid on an incentive laden contract (like my various loan officers), would the fans still be questioning his agenda on the Philly game? Even if he took himself out of a game and declared he quit for the game, I bet you there still wouldn't be this uproar because THE FANS KNOW THEY DIDN'T GET CHEATED OUT OF THEIR MONEY.
Hey Rick the Ruler, What the hell happened to our defense? I mean, most of the guys from last year are still here, plus some added additions, and our defense has just gone down the toliet. And it's not just recent games. Our defense has been pretty bad from the start of this new era. I'm sure the offense will come along (crosses fingers) but in the meantime, you think you can get these guys to play defense? It shouldn't be too hard, should it? These guys were one of the best defensive teams last year.
You forgot to repeatedly mention that you are a branch manager for a $300 million bank branch in California. Without adding that point at least 10-15 times, your post fails to drive home the underlying message. And, most importantly, Morey can breathe a little bit easier now knowing that you aren't planning on taking his job for him.
It was pretty comical that people were assuming the rockets would automatically be this high powered offense over the offseason
Exactly. Maybe try a zone? Get in the passing lanes if you can't guard your man one-on-one with the ball and deny the ball in the first place. Try a zone. Shake up something. Whatever happens, this man to man, swith on screens defense is not working.
Okay, to make you feel better. Just forget I said I managed a bank. Just think that I managed your local McDonald's. Do you feel better now? Has any of my points changed in any way? By the way, are you in foreclosure? I feel some misguided hatred towards the banking industry on your part. Should I tell the guard to specifically look out for any guy name Brooks and not allow him/her entry for the sake of my staff? The state of the economy is bringing out the worst of people...
I find it hilarious that the same things people were HATING on JVG for are now finding as Adelman's faults. Beware of what you wish for!
