I'd love to see how these people would react up here. Last winter, the city record for snowfall was shattered. I don't remember the exact figures, but the snowline got so high that it was well above car height in our driveway. It was even worse when I lived up Labrador. I'm telling you, you haven't lived until you've shovelled your car out from drifts that go halfway up the car window. Gee, I feel like a crotchety old man. "Y'see sonny.. In my day, I'd walk a mile to school in -60C weather wearing nothing but jeans, a coat and a pair of earmuffs." (true story) BTW, PSJ CYTD (Check Your Trade Desk)
As far as I'm concerned, it was bad! Then again, I've driven on ice/snow all of one time prior to today, so I was pretty much scared out of my mind. I've never driven in snow this deep. On my way to work I skidded across one lane of traffic onto the shoulder. Luckily, no other cars were close to me. I shouldn't be allowed to drive on ice. Certain parts of Washington got 7 inches of snow.
today is one of those days where you don't want to go out at all. I slept until noon, then looked out the window and the snow is falling"sideways". this seems like the biggest snowstorm I have seen and this is my 5th winter in New YOrk. Vescey< i hope CUNY is closed tomorrow, parce que je ne veux pas aller au classe de francais. (because I don't want to go to french class)
You must have just missed the storm of '96. I think it was in March. The highest snow totals in a long long time.
I'm happy that it's getting into the 30's in Dallas. That 60-70 degree crap is for the birds. I want a winter, not year-round spring and summer!
I thought the '96 storm was in January, but I might be remembering wrong. We were off from school for a couple weeks then, too. Great times. Finn, Reason, what cities are you guys in?
It may have been January, but for some reason I remember it being a freak end of winter storm. I am in Scranton.
Finn that storm you speak of was in March, state of emergency in my area for an entire week. Here in good old bucolic Bucks County, Pa. we had just about 10 inches and let me tell you driving into work was fun. Tomorrow I want to see if I can drive backwards when I'm in reverse instead of drive. We were kicking this around today, if it snowed in Houston like 10 inches or so, and lets say it blew in during a typical work day while everyone was already at work, how many car accidents would their be? I would say at least one out of every three cars registered in the area would be involved in some sort of fender bender or stop sign bender.
10 inches of snow in Texas???? We wouldn't leave our offices. I, for one, would spend the night in the building. 10 inches of snow! Good god man, I can't imagine even a quarter inch!
I'm in DC and I think we ended up getting about 8 inches total. It has been great, although that's prbably b/c I didn't have to drive anywhere today. That can be a nightmare in this city as nobody appears to know how to drive in the white stuff. But I guess it's still better than Houston where the threat of snow can send people scurrying, let alone the snow itself.
It rained here in Fairbanks last week and they canceled school (no joke). It all froze over the roads and made things a tad treacherous. Also, I can't believe it's December in Alaska and it hasn't snowed for two months now. We are 150 miles below the Arctic Circle and the grass is green on campus. I WANT MY SNOW
Richmond VA. its freezin here. good thing tho no sckool coz of the snow. im gunna go make snow rockets. lol
