I think you should start a petition in Acres Homes, 3rd Ward , and 5th Ward... Ask for signatures from the blacks to take his shows off the air... And the most important thing is : wear white hooded sheets for the appeal... If you can get just one signature , you've won half the battle...
George Lopez is laughing at this thread. All this fuss about the 2nd-largest minority group in this country?
Actually, many cable systems have Hispanic networks that feature Hispanic shows and casts. While there may be a channel or two dedicated to blacks, I don't think there is a lot of scriipted material. We don't get minority channels in Minnesota.
In Perry's defense, this looks like a bit more upscale, well-educated, non-slapstick show, unlike all of his "House of Payne" and "Meet the Browns" and all that "Madea" crap that's just some old lady screaming at people, someone tripping and falling, or someone saying some male-chauvinistic junk. There's no THINKING involved in that type of comedy to get those "slapstick-style jokes and comedy." Want some "thinking" comedy? Watch The Office and watch Seinfeld. George Lopez's band is ALL BLACK. No one noticed this? It works because they're good.
I'm sorry but that's bullsh. There are other options but they're not numerous and not quality like one had in the 80s and early 90s-sitcom wise(Cosby, Fresh Prince, etc). You're looking for other sitcoms with predominantly black casts, unfortunately BET has two of them- The Game and Let's Stay Together. Neither of them are impressive(but the ladies on Let's Stay Together, yowza!) TV One has a couple-OTOMY the show with Tatyana Ali, "Love that girl". Now back to your point that if " a black person wants to watch a show with a predominantly black cast, he is stuck with Tyler Perry." Please explain why the OP is blaming Tyler Perry instead of Hollywood studios and the TV Networks??? Also, the OP made no mention and did not in any way indicate his question had anything to do with what a black person could watch these days that wasn't Tyler Perry. He just wanted answers as to what "he" and "other white people"(in keeping with the thread title) need to do to stop Tyler Perry from making shows.
I'd watch Tyler Perry shows over any of them dumb ass reality shows.. I never understood "reality shows"... If a camera is in your face, followin you around ,then sorry but there's nothing real about anything you're gonna say or do...
Too bad you're offended, but, check it: Spoiler versus Spoiler versus Spoiler Come on, now. You know what I mean. There's going to be less slapstick in the former than in the two latter ones.
What you dont realize is, all the screamin and arguing the two main characters are gonna be doing(because thats the appeal they have) will bleed "slapstick"....
Yeah, Dave...because no respectable white comedic actor has ever been feminized for a skit or a movie.
It seems fitting considering she got her start in film by putting a black penis in her mouth. She's come full circle
We may have to accept as a minority that a large part of what creates economic and guilt-neutral social currency for us in society is more based on other's image or model for us than on what we feel we have to offer. That a black guy's in a leadership role, commanding professional staffs of tens or hundreds and attracting millions in financing in the process without a body count or unambiguously destructive imagery is probably as good as we can hope for.
To answer the OP's question, maybe us black people should STOP perpetuating the stereotypes that cause shows like this to be made.
There are bad apples in every group, and stereotypes only work because the majority and/or dominant group has insufficient interaction with minority individuals to counteract the model. Also, both the majority and minority group lack the incentive to foster greater understanding of each other. It's a waste of time for a minority member to self-correct because they believe the goal posts will continue to be moved, it's a waste of time for the majority member because their world runs (at least) just as smoothly without minorities as it would with them. Lastly, stereotypes tend to involve activities like sex and violence that in and of themselves are actually quite fun.
Chapelle's reminding me of McGrady, both of them taking a sabbatical to Africa. Too mentally weak to handle great opportunity, not handling the pressures well. Also (stereotypically) some non-blacks who life a more buttoned-up "stuffy" life, they'll not admit they peek into the other ethnic culture's less constrictive more free flowing ways so THEY can loosen up a little. Sometimes you don't want to wait through some high-brow slow moving dark subtle humor, you want the loud thoughtless slapstick.
