Nice cameo by Stan Lee as the bus driver although I saw his name in the opening credits and expected it.
You would think, the way he's been able to access powers more and more that he could have turned back time to save Simone. Which power did he use to stop the stun gun? I thought it was time because it looked like everything else was slowed down, including invisible man. But if he just used TK to stop it, then him not being able to turn back time makes sense because even Hiro is having problems with using his power.
It seemed to me like a combo of time stoppage and telekenisis. If it was just his time powers, the tazers would have slowed down but resumed normal speed once he allowed time to continue. The fact that the tazers dropped indicates his use of telekenesis. But they used sound effects to clearly indicate that time was slowing down and then stopped. So it was a combo of both. Peter still isn't fully aware of what powers he has. He didn't know he had telekenesis until this episode. We didn't know 'til this ep (and Hiro still doesn't know) that Hiro can reverse time a bit. He knew he could time travel but not necessarily rewind events as they happen. So I doubt Peter knows if he's capable of anything similar.
I know right? I started watching the show because of Simone and Niki. I guess we all know that at least Niki ain't goin out like that!
I thought that was a great episode last night. I thought maybe they would drag out the cheerleader's foster family ordeal a bit longer, but I'm pleased they aren't. It's really starting to come into it's own as far as the storytelling goes. The only things I have to complain about are mostly from last half season. The Indian's character was boring and full of unecessary filler. Now that he's actually doing something he's fine. I'm fine with evil Nikki(I likey villains), and good Nikki is ok to balance out the evil every once in a while, but the kid and hubby are bland and yuck(esp the kid). Very interested in seeing what'll happen with peter and sylar as far as all their power consumption.
FINALLY a payoff for this series! Best episode yet. Tons of action, some plots coming together. Peter is really coming into his own, and may be more than a match for Sylar. This was the first episode that I actually liked him in. Speaking of Sylar, does anyone else think he may have bit off more than he can chew absorbing the super hearing? He seems pretty vulnerable right now. A good hardy round of applause would bring him to his knees. And come, on, Mohinder, you are the posterchild for geniuses without any street smarts. Get a clue, buddy. You're rolling with with Sylar. Duh. Claire's drama is a little annoying for me, but I guess it's believeable from a teenage girl. Hopefully she will get away from dad. I suppose I'm hoping for most of the cast to get away from their 'normal' supporting members. It looks like the show is finally going that way. I was pretty happy to see Simone get shot- I hope she is offed for good. Her character is bland as hell, regardless of looks. She comes off as a Law and Order drone. Bor-ing. Other than Peter taking control of his powers, the highlight of the show was seeing 3 of the supers come together- Matt, Radioactive man, and IM girl - to take on HRG. The previews for next week look absolutely tantilizing! This show has passed BSG as my favorite now. I may actually read the graphic novels if I have time today.
Exactly - you'd think he'd show some discretion after the way Mrs. Daredevil was telling them about how her gift was so tough on her. Maybe it goes back to when Sylar told Mohinder's dad that his killing for powers was compulsory. I thought it was fitting for Stan Lee to show up, giving how this show seems so steeped in Marvel-esque characters and tendencies (Peter Patrelli...Peter Parker...). I'm enjoying how paralleled the characters are: Each characters power is a reflection/irony of their lives (Peter's sympathizing nature, Matt's communication problems with his wife, Claire's overprotective father, Inviso's departure from society, Nathan's desire to hold himself above others, etc). Each character was at a crossroads with their non-powered sidekick last night. Almost everyone has been tied to Lenderman Almost everyone has used their power for selfish/wrong reasons (Claire crashing the car with the QB, Inviso's thievery, Matt keeping the diamonds, Nikki, DL escaping prison, Mikah hitting up the ATM, Peter last night vs Isaac, Hiro at the casinos). Oddly enough, the only guy whom I can't recall any such acts for is Nathan, the guy who skews the most like a potential bad guy (aside from Jessica). Evan
Interesting, good points. I think eventually Mohinder will catch on to the fact that he's with Sylar. He was looking at him funny when Sylar was being wierd at the hotel. For his sake, though, it'd be better if he doesn't figure it out. Last nights episode might have been the best from the whole first season, really good episode. And, it's all basically due to just Peter starting to get control of his powers. When he stopped the tazer, I thought it was just like the end of the Matrix where Neo stops the bullets and fully realizes what he's capable of. Peter is starting to become a badass. At first I didn't really like Peter's storyline because he was weak and couldn't do anything, but now he's becoming the most powerful of them all. I'm sure we'll be seeing a Peter vs. Sylar battle before too long. My only gripe from the show is with the nuclear dude (Lyle, I think it was). When he was at the cemetary, everything was becoming infected and dying. Wouldn't anyone he was around also get really bad poisoning and die, too? Whatever, not a big deal.
I think nuclear guy can control his powers, so when he was at his wife's grave he was pretty emotional and just let the radioactiveness out. otherwise he is in control and doesn't let his power destroy everything around him.
Duh, why didn't I think of that. I guess I just assumed he couldn't. Some of these powers are remotely believable (like telekenisis or.... well, verrrry remotely believable). Others, though, are totally crazy. Being able to log into the internet from your brain, controlling nuclear power... okayyy. I still love the ideas though, cool stuff.
If that's the case, he must have just learned how to control it when he isolated himself in that shack. He certainly couldn't control it when he blew up his house and put his wife in the hospital.
there was a brief shack scene last week where the implication was he was teaching himself control of it...
I just wonder where this show is going. Are they eventually gonna form two sides, like in X-men, or will the characters continue to live separate story lines like now. I keep waiting for them to all team up... but it doesn't seem like it's gonna happen.
I don't really see a two sides thing happening. There hasn't been any bad guys except Sylar. I'm sure some Heroes will have some conflicting interests at times, so there will be minor battles. I'm waiting on that Sylar vs. Peter one, though.
That's what I was thinking as well. Seems that more and more they are using their powers for good or bad (ie: cop stealing the jewels (bad), Nikki killing people (bad), her husband saving the people in the burning car (good), Hiro's actions always for the sake of good, etc). I think maybe they are clues as to which side each heroe will end up.
They may not team up, but they are going to all end up in the same place, NYC. Remember all the early footage of the city, deserted and it's just the characters running around, supposedly foreshadowing the end of the show? They are all together in NYC.
pretty awesome episode...mohinder sure is having trouble picking up on the obvious. dunno what's going to happen when he realizes he's with sylar. peter is pretty much a badass now. hiro is about to do his thing it seems. the cameo by stan lee was awesome, quite unexpected by me. the best part to be honest is the whole issue with hrg's family now. one thing I think that is completely understated is the bind he's in with the nuclear fellow / wireless / matt. everytime matt has ran into hrg previously, he's been with the hatian and now he does not have his backup. they will be able to pull every single detail from him, however I don't think matt has full control of his powers since he can only "hear" their thoughts rather than plucking them out. either way things are getting very interesting.
Got to pimp the graphic novels especially since they introduce the new characters BEFORE the show does generally. Lots of background info on the wireless girl etc....very cool stuff. DD
