Well in LA if you want to watch movies at the decent "in-town" theaters, it's over 11 bucks. And some places are charging over 10 bucks for Matinees. How's that for an
I'm really looking forward to seeing Hero on the big screen I bought the DVD but I don't believe that does credit to its grandeur and scale. While the narrative of Hero is certainly compelling IMO what makes it so amazing is its cinematography. There are so many incredible images from a sword point splitting a brush to the Qin army marching on a town. Like many here I'm kinda miffed about Quentin Tarentino having his name splashed over it. I'm so sick of people saying "Man I can't wait to see Tarentino's new movie! I loved Kill Bill so this should be good." Hero is nothing like Kill Bill. Where Kill Bill was deliberately over the top and intentionally derivative Hero is subdued and almost understated at times while vastly stretching the boundaries of what is normally thought of as a martial arts movie. This is more of a movie for Kirosawa fans than John Woo fans.
Saw it already. Have to say CTHD is a much better movie to watch then this one. Hero is a good movie visually and great Cinematograpy but the story is pretty boring at time. Very epic looking and love the look of it but I couldn't sit through the whole thing without being a little bored with the story. It shoould look amazing on big screen no doubt but don't expect alot of people thinking this is an action pack movie. If people who thought CTHD was boring they will not like this movie any better but you will never know until you give it a try.
Miramaxe, they are freaking asses. What ever happen to Shaolin Soccer? Now that was a fun movie and I never heard if it ever did hit theatre over here. All I know is that the DVD is being release over here on the 24 of August which is yesterday.
I bought the Miramax DVD. I've had the Region 0 release for a couple years, but the new one has a better transfer and much more intelligible subtitles. The loss of the DTS track sucks though. Still, it's definitely worth picking up if you don't own it yet. As for Hero, I bought the Region 3 DVD a year ago, so I doubt I'll see the movie in the theater. Besides, I'll bet money the soundmix at the multiplex will never rival the DTS 6.1 Matrix track on the DVD. That's one of the sickest audio demos I've ever heard.
i am pumped about it. I saw (he ping's?) "The swordsman of two flags" about a week or so ago on tv and saw the commercial for this a little while later so I am jacked about seeing this kind of movie. I'd allso like to find a dvd copy of "warriors of heaven & earth" but have not been able to yet.
I watched this movie on VCD(Quality is kind of bad), which I think is a very meaningful movie, if you analysis this movie, you will get a very meaningful message from this movie. I truely believe that if Miramax release this movie widely when it first came out, it would be a box office hit, but they keep doing this and change that, so I don't know what the American version will be like in theather. All in all, it's definitly a movie that you will want to see, because the scene in this movie is unlike any other movie you ever seen, which some people like it, and some don't, you just have to experience it yourself.
I watched this movie like a year and a half ago, and I liked it a lot. One thing I remember is that every scene was very colorful. Gorgeous movie, and they better not cut it short.
Wow, I'm quite surprised that this movie has a 97% freshness at rottentomatoes. It certainly has the potential to be a classic for some people. The artsy elements are all there, but nicely done in a way that average moviegoers can also enjoy it. I wonder how wide the release is, and how well it'll do at the box office. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, when I saw the movie, easily looked like a hit. But with Hero, I have absolutely no clue how it'll be received in the US.
i saw Infernal Affairs too. it was a cool movie, the Chinese gangsters looked badass. I hear the remake is gonna have a different name and its gonna be Brad Pitt and Matt Damon
Tonight at 10 p.m, Jet Lee and Quentin Tarantino will sit down together talks about this movie at FX.
