Don't know but they did say that cap space is important to Sac, so they may feel like a sign and trade is not as big as we feel it 'should' be! That could work to our advantage. If Sacramento does a sign and trade with NY or Orlando, then they have to take back around $11M in salary since NY and Orlando are both over the cap. They end up with a choice of getting back players or cap space. But, we could offer them a sign and trade where Sacramento gets something (for example: draft picks and Kenny Thomas) while still freeing up $10M in cap space. ------------------ [This message has been edited by aelliott (edited May 18, 2001).]
OR (getting too complicated like I always do, but) we could work something with Chicago in which they receive Walt and maybe Cato and a pick or two for Marcus Fizer; then send Fizer to Sacramento. That would be a nice way to dump cap space and would free Chicago to grab Eddie Griffin with that high draft pick and would give us some salary relief. ------------------
I like Shane Battier. Really, I do. I was rooting for him to win a title and the Wooden award. But if the Rockets have a very high draft pick I do NOT want them to draft Battier. He's a safe pick, and will almost certainly have a place in the NBA. But his place will be that of a good roleplayer, or maybe even a marginal star at best (15/6 or so). I'd rather take a flag on a highschooler or Griffin. Battier at 9 would be wonderful. Battier at 4 would be tragic. ------------------ I would believe only in a God who could dance. - Friedrich Nietzsche Boston College - NCAA Hockey National Champions 2001 [This message has been edited by haven (edited May 18, 2001).]
Im with you heypartner I think this small forward thing is a total headfake. Rudy and CD have to secretly be drooling over a player like Michael Bradley who's stock is going to rise the closer we get to this draft.
jump shooter: I've seen Michael Bradley in person 4 times. We DO NOT WANT HIM. He sucks. I go to BC, and our extremely short and small team managed to contain him very easily by just playing him physically. Then, we just played 4 guards, and they ran around him, sinc ehe was too slow to keep up or get in good position. He didn't do much on the shotblocking end. I did not receive a favorable impression at all. We were 3-0 against them this year, without a player on the court above 6'8. Bradley was completely unable to take advantage of this. ------------------ I would believe only in a God who could dance. - Friedrich Nietzsche Boston College - NCAA Hockey National Champions 2001 [This message has been edited by haven (edited May 18, 2001).] [This message has been edited by haven (edited May 18, 2001).]
Quit screwing around Doc Rocket, Doctor Robert is Clutch's real source. In your opinion Doc Rocket, if the Rockets don't get a #3 by the glory and grace of GOD, my is he glory and graceful... he is all righteous and only he knows the true worth of a top 3 pick, glorious and graceful, true... what were we talking about? Oh yeah, if the Rockets don't get a #3 and there's no other way to acquire Battier, do you think they'd rather trade the pick than take on a defensive specialist like Jefferson or a young kid like Joe Johnson? Also, last year we heard that the Rockets wanted Darius Miles, Mike Miller, whatshisfaceinAtlanta... and nothing happened w/ that position or those players. Was that all a series of headfakes or were the opportunities simply not there? ------------------ women love me, fish fear me.
I would bet you, but you already said no newbies Even though I don't agree w/ you about the draft pick(s), I do agree w/ your assessment that the 4 & 5 are our greatest weakness. But here's how I see it. You say that this is one of the best big men drafts in a while. I agree, but lets look at all the big guys available. Brown, Diop, Chandler, Cisse, Curry are all High School players. While their impact on the L may be debateable, the fact is that these guys are not Rudy type picks. Even though I would love to take a chance on Brown or Curry, I just don't see it happening. OK..Who's left? Woods - no heart, no desire, no pick by the Rox. Haywood - He might be a slightly better Osterfat. K Johnson - I would like the Rox to pick this guy, but I think there will be much better talent on the board when our pick comes. Then you got some good/decent PF's in White, Randolf, Murphy, Bradley. I think Randolf will go before our pick, and again, when our pick comes there will be a lot better talent out there than these guys. Plus I see the Rox going w/ either Mo or C-Webb for PF, and unless KT is involved in a trade this summer I just don't see them picking a backup PF w/ all of the talent in this draft. Now, back to filling the needs in the frontcourt. Why pick a rookie to fill in our biggest hole? I just think that's a little too much to ask of a rook. So, how do you fill it? You go after proven FA in A Davis or M Jackson or you could go after Raef and try and work a deal w/ Denver. This way you have people who have already adjusted to the NBA and are ready to produce now. This is why I think the Rox are so high on Battier. He is a safe bet to fill in our secondary need. If he turns out to be a star...great. If he can't make the adjustment to the NBA, then we really didn't spend that much on him and can easily unload him after a couple of seasons. But, of course all of this depend on what exactly the Rox wiil do w/ their pix. Hell, you might not even have a bet if we trade all of them. Anyway, that's my take. Good luck on your bet!! ------------------
But Floyd, The bet is for all summer transactions, not just the draft. btw...you can still try and play, the eligibility rule for no-names who have no stake to their moniker is that you could be voted off by the other side. You might not. ------------------- Heypee's Bet Your Moniker Game, <a href="http://bbs.clutchcity.net/ubb/Forum3/HTML/012870-2.html">(bet me here gurus)</a>: <font size="1">SF is not top priority...A 3rd String PG will make the team before Langhi is unseated as 2nd/3rd String SF. 1. My bad...I didn't see the abridged version. Now I see the catch...Langhi must be unseated. OK...I'll still bet ya, or take sides rather. Not that I believe wholeheartedly against you...I just don't have that much to lose. And a bet is no fun unless someone picks the other side. Plus, I just don't see all of the hype surrounding Langhi. I see him taking Bull's role, except a better, more athletic version. I just don't see him as the starter if SA leaves. I hope I'm wrong...I would love to see him have a breakout sophmore yr., but he just looked so lost this year. I don't know that he can improve that much over the summer. I got a ? though...What if Langhi is traded? All bets are off? ------------------
Jump shooter: He only averaged 1.8 blocks! Amazing for someone his height. Bradley isn't an awful player, just not someone you'd want on the team. I think of him as a second Jason Collier, with slightly better low post moves, and a worse jump shot. Collier had very similar numbers, and played in a harder conference. Regardless, Bradley didn't dominate this year, and he should have been able to do so if he were that great, as he played in a conference without big men this year. In the NBA, where big men are common, he's going to get massacred. He couldn't carry his team, and didn't play nearly as well in big games. He still scored but he got shut down in key situations. There's a reason he didnt win Big East player of the year. Bradley's a decent jump shooting center who can't defend, doesn't block shots well, and is slow. His post game is marginal. We already have Collier. ------------------ I would believe only in a God who could dance. - Friedrich Nietzsche Boston College - NCAA Hockey National Champions 2001 [This message has been edited by haven (edited May 18, 2001).]
haven Bradley in your eyes may not have taken advantage of Boston College in the 3 games this season, but in those three game you didnt exactly shut him down. He averaged 21.0pts 11.3rbs 3.3blocks and shot 68.75% from the field. Ill take those numbers even though you think he sucks. ------------------
I'm sold! Draft that suck-ass, Bradley. ------------------ "If you don't understand it, don't try to understand it." -Carl Everett
