This video should be retitled Ariza's coming out party

Watch this video and watch Ariza's highlights clip and tell me if they are not similar. Ariza is smiliar to T-Mac when he left Raptors for Magic, only difference is that Ariza has a ring

Ill, you really need to stop.....Ariza is nowhere NEAR as talented as Tmac....not even close.

Tmac could dribble, Ariza can not......Ariza is a role player, all he has been, all he ever will be.

While I am no TMac fan, he was a star player, and arguably one of the 2 or 3 best in the league for 5 or 6 years.

Ariza is nowhere near that, and never will be.

Compare their stats, T-Mac with Raptors and Ariza with Lakers
T-Mac was backup for Vince and became this good before his heart problems or lack there of
Ariza was back up for Kobe..........................

And now you put him in a team which values defense, a team where he has an opportunity to be paired with Yao. The sky is his limit if Yao lives up to expectations and if Morey adds one or two more good talents around him.

T-Mac in Toronto had similar handles to Ariza now. Why, because as long as Vince/Kobe is in the game, Ariza/T-Mac is not the primary handler. But if you watched the Lakers last year, especially playoff, when Kobe is on the bench, Ariza is the brain on the floor, sometimes Odom.

When T-Mac became the man in Orlando, he was able to make mistakes and learn from it, hence his ball handling became better. Watch out for Ariza, unless the coach decides to change him into a different player

I honestly don't understand why people are so eager to ship out Tmac for garbage right now...we are not going to get any value for him before February.

Do yall want us to end up like the Knicks with a bunch of role players and horrible contracts? Because thats where we will end up if we pull the trigger on Tmac trade right now....truly some idiot and ignorant fans out there...lol.

People complain that we aren't making any moves to get better. Well our best shot to make a major move is next year when Tmac's contract is up, AND Chris Bosh, Dwade, and Joe Johnson are out there as free agents (just to name a few).

We won't get better if we trade Tmac for Eddy Curry and Cuttino Mobley (who can't play because of a heart condition).

We won't get any better with Amare for a 1-year rental (or without a true PG), and add J-rich's 27 million over the next 2 years on top of that (he's as dumb as a cow on the basketball court), and we lose Battier, and either Landry or Brooks on top of that with Tmac.

Barbosa is okay, but he's not even a starter in this league...he's just a scorer thats it, not a true PG, and is too small to be a SG. He sure as hell can't play in a half court set...just look back at the series vs. the Spurs over the last few years. He won't make us better.

I don't know what other bogus trades for McGrady that I've heard recently, but there hasn't been anything of value for him that will improve us for the future.

I know this upcoming year will be tough, but IF Tmac can come back within the first month of the season, I honestly believe we can make the #8 spot in the West with Phoenix and Utah slipping, and potentially New Orleans.

But trading a guy who can potentially give you 20/6/5 atleast and who is an expiring contract for no talent and long, horrible contracts is just IDIOTIC!!!

If yall don't like the guy and have some no-life having grudge against him, thats fine, but atleast think of the team before yall make up these dumb trades and actually agree with these dumb trades just to get rid of him.

I wonder if those stupid and ignorant fans actually believe the crap that comes out of their mouths and onto the computer screen, lol. Freakin ridiculous...

If we could get Joe Johnson or Chris Bosh for him straight up then I would agree to that trade, but that aint happening, so might as well wait til February or just let his contract expire.

DD, I don't understand why some people on this board believe Ariza is going to turn into a McGrady (pre 08-09 season). Ariza does not have that talent.

Nope, Ariza is more competitive, and more about winning....but Tmac has more overall talent..

If Tmac had Ariza's competitive fire and selflessness, he would have been an all time great.

i really dont think you can call tmac selfish by saying if he had ariza's competitive selflessness...who was ariza a few years ago?? and maybe if ariza had the ability to create his own shot like tmac you wouldnt be talking about arizas "selflessnes" in the same way....no on can doubt that tmac was ready to take the back seat to yao, not only because he wasnt the same player he once was but also because tmac knew it was better for the team to play inside out.

Nice DD it is all about the will to win and desire that seperates the great ones. TMac has all the skills but lacks what Kobe has the killer drive and what is known as muncha ganas.

Without Shaq and Gosal, Kobe was a 1st rounder too. Without Phil Jackson, he couldn't make playoffs either.

This is perfect, if McGrady can come back and eventually by injury free finally, he'll have a very good season (20/6/6/42%+ IMO). We had pretty much the same team, but with Deke in '08 and we capped off a 22 game winning streak, including grabbing HCA and winning 55 games. If we can get T-Mac back, keep the same team, trade Battier for a legitimate scoring threat and center (hopefully), we're making the playoffs no doubt.

    Brooks
    T-Mac
    Ariza

Tmac in high school was was probably more talented than a 24 year old Ariza is now. Hell, Tmac was a much better defender than Ariza is now, and defense is supposed to be Ariza's strength.

Tmac was a MUCH better athlete than Ariza, and he actually showed flashes of brilliance in his 1st 3 years as an 18-21 year old player.

By his 3rd season, he was averaging 15.4 ppg, 6 rpg, 3 apg, 1 spg, and 2 bpg, off the bench!! (30 mpg)

He also averaged 5 free throw attempts per game and shot 45% from the field.

Ariza's highest ppg average is 8.9 as a 23 year old player last year, WITH Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, and Lamar Odom's help.

Tmac by his 2nd season was averaging 9.3 ppg, in 22 mpg with MUCH LESS help.

If you still think Ariza has potential to become Tmac, look at their assist #'s.

In Tracy McGrady's 1st 3 seasons in the NBA, where he didn't get much playing time, he had a total of 474 assists.

Now look at Trevor Ariza's 5 year, CAREER...he's had a grand total of 400 assists, with 2 more years and more minutes per game, and he still has 74 assists less than Tmac as a kid in Toronto!! Good Luck Ariza trying to become one of the top 15 playmakers in this league.

Lets look at rebounds. Tmac in his 1st 3 seasons had 1,048 total rebounds. Trevor Ariza in his total 5 year career has had 1,169 rebounds, once again with 2 extra seasons, only outrebounded Tmac by 21 rebounds, even though they are essentially the same size at that time. Whats the difference? Athleticism...people forget that Tmac was a top 5 athlete in this league.

Blocks: Tmac in his first TWO seasons had 127 blocks. Ariza in 5 total seasons in his career has had 83 blocks.

Tmac is also a career 75% free throw shooter, while Ariza is a career 66% free throw shooter.

Ariza has become a better SPOT UP 3 point shooter, but Tmac had the ability similar to Kobe and Lebron, and even Joe Johnson and Agent Zero to knock down the pull up 3 on a defender. I just can't picture Ariza being able to do that ever in his career in the NBA.

Ariza is comparable in the steals department, I'll give him that, but that doesn't make him Tmac or even close to becoming Tmac.

All Tmac had was Vince Carter, who he actually became better than overall over the next few years.

Ariza has the potential to become the next Shandon Anderson for the Rockets. Both were limited offensively and overrated defensively, and both were overpaid in my opinion.

He also has the potential to be a nice solid role player, maybe something like a Marvin Williamas, but if he hasn't shown anything in 5 years in the league, what will make us think he will all of a sudden develop handles and court vision and scoring ability like a young Tracy McGrady or even present day Tmac.

I really hope Ariza does improve, and I believe he will this year, since he has the opportunity with Yao out, and he will be a good open court player.

But to say that he can become Tmac is just absurd. I agree with DD 100% on this one. Ariza will be a nice role player at best, nothing more than that.

Instead of worrying about Ariza's pgg, you should be wow'ed that he was able to average almost 9 ppg and develop himself while being on the same team as Kobe, Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom and Bynum. Most nights he wasn't even #5 option, having players like Fisher, Shannon Brown, Vujacic, Josh Powell and Farmar trying to be the spark off the bench.

In Toronto, T-Mac only "really" had Carter to worry about. In T-Mac's first 3 seasons, he averaged 7, 9.3 and 15.4, and mind you he had the green light to shoot as long as Carter was on the bench, when Carter joined him. In T-Mac's first playoff, he only improved his ppg from 15.4 to 16.7

Ariza went from 8.9 to 11.4, and thats with him being the defensive stopper on that Lakers team, most times guarding the other team's best player so that Kobe can score.

T-Mac USED to be a better defender. T-Mac today couldn't guard an 80 year old woman on a wheelchair. Knowing T-Mac, he will blow an open dunk, then foul the 80 year old woman

There was a REASON McGrady was a LOTTERY pick. There is a reason Ariza was a 2ND ROUND pick.

yea agreed with those fellas, ariza will be a great piece for this team, but if anyone is expecting him to take tmac's old role on this team, or become a star player, then your in for a world of disappointment. he doesn't have the handles, the ability to create his own shot, or consistent ability to beat his man off the dribble and have the court vision to make the right play.

Well, I hope you see your lottery pick or maybe we should call him bad luck pick and all his playoff trials. Look at the two teams T-Mac played for prior to the Rockets, they all have an excellent big man and pg to build around; Bosh/Calderon and Howard/Nelson. I'm not worried about T-Mac skills anymore, he had enough opportunities to prove himself, he failed time after time, and the only time he was injured, his team was one game away from the NBA Conference finals.

If I was Morey, I wouldn't trade him to a good team or a team with any chance. I will do a 3-way trade and and find a way to send T-Mac to either the clippers, grizzlies, bucks. If I'm sure Lebron won't be going to NY, then I will trade him to NY. Just to screw him back for all the times he got us, Mr I can only play one game of a back to back

did you watch basketball then? i know it's easy to say there was only carter, but there was more good players on the team, not to mention tmac didn't get barely any minutes until his third season. you know after that season, tmac's talent was too good, that they essentially gave him a max contract before coming to orlando. i don't see anyone throwing that type of cash for ariza...we got him for essentially MLE money..

on the raptors, both carter and doug christie took all the minutes at the wing positions, they also had guys like john wallace that few ppl still had hope as becoming a good player after he was considered the "steal" of his draft..dee brown played over 28 minutes per game. tmac was 19 years OLD, Ariza is now 24 years old, while still young, not some kid comin out of high school..

their talent is comparable..but there's no point in arguing I guess, when everyone on THIS board (shocking cuz everyone hates tmac) is against you, then you know your fighting a battle thats unrealistic.
