Bruce comparing stats form the 70's to present day is like comparing hockey stats from the 80's to today. The NBA has evolved quite a bit since the 80's an 90's, it's much more defense oriented now. Outside of the Kings and Mavs, most teams tend to try to win games based on defense. The Rox are a defense based team, they slow the game down and dont put up as many shots as other teams, so lets not compare a player today to someone who played in an era when defense wasnt exactly the focus. Times change you know, for instance, do you think Gretzky could still score 95 goals in today's trap defense? Maybe you should try to ook at things less from stats and more from personal enjoyment, that is if you can actually enjoy watching a Rox basketball game =)

I'm not disputing that Yao has potential.

What I'm saying is that he's has two full season under his belt practically. The time for talking about "potential" is drawing to a close.

He does have a chance to really improve his game. I hope he does.

I think we're better served by having an offense that makes every player a weapon and that attacks the weakest link of a defense - whatever it might be.

What you want is a Memphis based offense. The same offense decried by many as lacking in the payoffs due to lack of a goto guy. That kind of offense wins regular season games, not playoff games.

You may have disputed this part of my argument, but what about every thing else(I know the minutes argument. I dont agree.)

The 13.5 rebounds and 2.22 blocks do dwarf Yaos.

Even though I dont think that Yao is going to be one of the greatest ever. I do think that he could be a great supporting player on a championship team. Kind of like Kareem in his later years with LA.

PS i toned down my sig for those of you it offended

Field goals attempted so far this season:

    Francis 999
    Mobley 922
    Yao Ming 848
    J. Jackson 754
    Mo Taylor 630

Does not look like an offense that focuses on Yao Ming as the only weapon.

You know Bruce, you definitely are not too smart. Have you wondered that why in a thread on a forum with 15,000+ members, only you don't come out calling Juugie a troll?

To answer your question, every statistical, tangible, respectable opinions have been posted in the 50 million other Yao bashing threads Juugie started. We are already sick and tired of regurgitating what we said 50 million times already. We KNOW what Juugie is in which noobs like you don't. The only reason people are still here kickin', whinin' and complain' is because Juugie hasn't been banned yet and he's wasting our bandwidth here.

so instead of Yao as the go to guy, you want to change our game plan on a game to game basis?

too idealistic. what team is like that in the NBA today. the teams that are like that don't have a dominant force. but you're just gonna say Yao's not a dominant force.

so after two seasons of adapting in a radically different league/environment. no more talks of potential? give me a friggin' break. when yao's stats start leveling out, and he adjusts to being the main man, which only started this season, then we can stop talking about potential.

face the facts... you just don't like Yao Ming as a player and don't think he can grow to be able to carry the team. 98% of the board disagrees with you. but you will never be convinced otherwise. but heck you're entitled to believe whatever you want.

Thanks bro. I'm not bashing Bruce, but I am beginning to see the value of the mandatory 2 months lurking period before posting that SamFisher was talking about.

Btw, SJC, I am disappointed in you. Usually when Juugie posts another one of those stupid thread you are often the first one to respond. Took ya 6 pages of replies? Man you let us down. ;)

Nothing wrong with bashing Bruce, I hate people who only make their decisions based on stats. Life and basketball is more than just numbers, try to remember that Brucie Boy

2.2 DWARFS 1.9? Oh wow. Also... note that he never blocked more than 2 shots a game after that season, at least with the Rockets. stay away from the falun gong, man.

13.5 rebounds... wow that would pretty much lead the league today. get it in your head that the game was different then.

Juugie, I am wondering what's your feeling for Steve. Tell us your opinion on Steve.

The world is not run by thought, nor by imagination, but by opinion.

    Here is my two cents:

A franchise player brings "it" every game. In the case of Yao, I think we all agree that he doesn't do that. But, the question is whether Yao has the potential to bring "it" every game. Of course, his shot may be off every now and then but will he do the dirty work necessary to win. That is the question that the front office must come to grips with before Steve can be traded.

There is no question that Yao is a "Franchise" type player. But, sometimes the number two option has to be better than others. For instance, Dream didn't need as good a number two option as Yao does. I am not sure Yao will be able to hold up and have a long enough career if he has to carry the same load that Hakeem had to. That is why we need a player like Steve.

Steve does not deserve all of criticsm that he is getting right now. But, things tend to even out. He deserved alot more criticism in the past when most people put him on such a high pedestal. I was one of the first people to start doubting Steve. In fact, I remember a thread when I said I was not going to believe anything that he said because he never backed it up. But, I seriously believe the guy has turned the corner. The guy has changed and is starting to re-invent himself. It takes time. He is starting to get it.

The true problem we are have is the role players are not the right complements for Yao and Steve. My conclusion: WE ARE GETTING THERE! WE NEED SOME EXPERIENCE AND A ONE KEY FREE AGENT! NO NEED TO TRADE OUR TWO BEST PLAYERS!

What do you base your decisions on. the fact that you THINK yao will be the greatest. the fact that you THINK that all the stats that I posted mean nothing because I dont have lots of posts. You may think that im stupid because I dont have unwavering faith in yao and his "potential". I dont hate him I just dont like it when people say someone is great jsut because its the opinion of every one else. i dont think that yao or lebron are going to become the greatest ever this dosnt mean that i hate them or that im stupid just because I have a different oppinion on them than you do.

Calm yourself, not everyone here who disagrees with you is a Yao worshipper. We're not blind and do know his faults, so maybe it isn't about that, try to get that through your thick head. This whole forum is based on opinion, if one guy says he thinks so and so is a good player, and you disagree, hey thats cool. But stop bashing our heads in with the same old same old every damn time and wasting the bandwidth. The posts directed at you arent because of your opinion of Yao, it's because you're a silly little twit who thinks you have to save the BBS from the YOFs of the world. This is so las year, please move on with your life, we all have, well cept maybe Chicken Little =)
