These are the same guys who wet their pants over Cato and overpaid him before the season even started. Barring ugly red tape, I guess we are getting Ming after all...
Just because they say they have come to agreement with Ming doesn't mean they will keep him. If you throw out contract issues with Ming, it clearly makes him the #1 pick and more valuable for a trade.
Who needs a big man anyway? Houston trades #1 and Cat Houston recieves #6 and Barron Davis With #6 we can draft Caron Butler, Tityvill or Woods. We now have a starting back court of Davis and Francis with draft pick (Butler) at the three. That blows last years backcourt away. We still have #15 to get a Stodamire or Nene. PG Davis Mooch SG Francis pick #37 (Jaun Dixon?) SF Draft pick#6 (Caron Butler, Tityvill or Woods) Tmo PF Griffin Mo T Kenny T C Cato Draft pick #15(Stoudamire) We have the exception to add depth. Cleveland trades A Mller #6 Cleveland recieves #1 pick and Mobley Cleveland send off potential max salery and get to start a rookie contract all over again in JW, and a very cheap but productive SG. If JW is as good as advertized this is a much improved backcourt. Charlott trades Barron Davis Charlott recieves Andre Miller Well one of the best for one of the best! Everyone wins except Charlott who IMO breaks even. Just kidding dont freak out! I hope we get MING for real.
Yes! Now, hmm, what's the price for Mr. Odom? Suppose it depends on who we get at 15, no? Unless we can package a player to move up. But I don't see Mooch or KT moving us up that much. The Clips with Cato, Mooch makes sense if they lose Kandi to FA, or lose McInnis. 15 plus Cato for Odom and Dooling, or maybe Clips trash to even money. Do they have any trash they need to shed? Is Piatkowski highly paid? I'd bet they move him. OR - maybe they want Grif. That's a choker. 15 plus Grif for Lamar is a tough deal. I'm a big Odom skills fan, but...gee, pass. I could see it, though. I think I prefer the team idea of Ming and Griffin working together as shot blockers to Odom's superior ball movement and point forward help. Eh.
Doc, Again, I think you've jumped the gun on this one. Everything I am hearing is contrary to this. Personally, I don't even think it is remotely possible to have worked out nearly all the contract matters with China, the CBA and the NBA in one week. That would be unheard of diplomacy. This is a smoke screen. Doc, no offense intended, but if this is what people are telling you, I think you are being strung along or being used. It just isn't consistent with the 411. Anyway, like I said, we shall see. Wait a minute, think about this, maybe this is half right. If the rights negotiations are correct that would mesh with the draft Ming #1 word you are hearing. Hmmmm......Could be. Draft, rights deal and trade. Possible, very possible. Alas, as I said earlier, we shall see.
I like this news. I went over just about every trade possible in one of the other threads and I just couldn't come up with anything worth the #1 pick. I don't think anybody can even offer anything like the Bulls offered Elton Brand last season...and remember that the Wizards wouldn't even trade Brand for the 1st pick, and Kwame was even less of a sure thing than Ming. Face it, we need a center more than anything, and Ming is by far the best prospect at the position. The only way I would consider trading the first pick is if we could get a good center and a high lottery pick that would allow us to draft one of our top three choice of small forwards. And let me stress that Michael Olowokandi is NOT a good center.
It's so incredibly disorientating to hear such contradicting info coming from every which way. I think, if i still have a gut feeling at this point, it is that we will pick Ming, but then deal him. Therefore, he still goes number 1, we still technically draft him, but then we use him to acquire someone else. I just agree with all of you saying that something seems too clean and simple in what we are hearing from Doc Rocket. No disrespect, but i think this news is posturing to maintain the number 1 pick's value, and the rockets' trade options. But we'll see when the draft arrives. AS always, Doc, thanks for contributing what you know to the board.
Like Doc said (and thanks for the blunt post Doc), everything can go "poof" at any minute. Folks, we're still on the roller coaster. Let's just enjoy the ride. This is fun.
Again, let me restate...the choice is Ming. Whatever else happens, I do not know. Could Steve leave? Yeah...he and Cat are not the 'Steve and Cuttino' everyone thinks. I know that. Steve isn't going to be allowed to hold the team hostage though. Could they trade Stevie? Sure... If Troy is right, is he the leader you want? Probably not. The smokescreen could be that Stevie will not leave if Ming comes here. My little tidbit is this - they WANT Ming. They will TAKE Ming and KEEP Ming. Now, that's what I know...or...have been told along with they're looking at other moves in addition! Could Steve be one of those moves? Maybe so. If we all keep picking away at it, we'll find out. It's like watching a bootlegged movie that hasn't come out yet. The goal is to know for sure before the draft. Otherwise, well..it would just suck, I guess. It's the QUEST....
It's not what I want, but there's NO WAY we don't pick Ming. I'd love to have Ming, but there are so many questions. Let's say Ming is ours, what is it that the Clippers want? If Ming is ours, that mean J-Will is at #2. Clipps trying to package Kandi, #8, #12, and #15 for #2 and whatever? If we get Ming and Odom or Butler or Artest, it would be the best offseason in history. Why can't Ming bulk up like Jeffries did? A bit more on the lower body, and a bit more than a bit more on the upper body.
am I wrong, or have all 3 of the Big Scoopers [doc, clutch, pops] mentioned the probability of other GMs and media reading this board? I know that Doc definitely has. even though it would be nice to feel like this is all done [even for somebody who definitely wants the Rockets to not end up with Yao], I agree with Hottoddie, Rocket!!!, and anyone else who thinks this is posturing. it doesn't make sense for it to all be wrapped up. let's put it this way. . . if you were a journalist or a GM reading this board, would you have the slightest inclination what the Rockets were going to do? I'd say no. and isn't that how the Rockets would like it to be? lastly. . . if you're David Stern, and you're reading this board: you're a bit(h. if you're Jerry Krause, and you're reading this board: your bulls would've swung from Dream's nuts in '94 and '95. believe it. if you're anyone from the New York media: Houston Rockets, 1994 World Champions!! p.s. now that I've read Doc's most recent post, I want to clarify that I believe this much: the Rockets will draft Ming. but his career as a Rocket will rival that of Richard Jefferson's, Jared Collier's and whoever that other scrub was from Pepperdine's as shortest ever.
I wonder if Sam Smith reads the BBS? I like the trade with the Clippers that he proposes. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune...6smithnbareport.column?coll=cs-home-headlines Bulls no lock to land Williams Deals that could change picture focus on Rockets E-mail this story May 26, 2002 All indications are that the Houston Rockets will select China's Yao Ming with the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft. Since the Rockets won the lottery for the top pick, talk of Yao coming to Houston has created basketball excitement there for the first time since the mid-1990s. However, two scenarios could change that and also cost the Bulls, who have the second pick, a chance at Jay Williams. League insiders are saying the Warriors are eager to make a move to get Williams. There also are indications the Los Angeles Clippers have an eye on Williams, a Duke star like their Elton Brand. Williams would be the point-guard leader the Clippers believe they need to make the playoffs in the Western Conference. And the Rockets just might be intrigued. Here's why. The Rockets are believed to like the overall talent of forward Lamar Odom, whom the Clippers reportedly do not intend to re-sign with so many young players coming up for extensions. The Rockets also are said to believe if they put the right players around Kelvin Cato, the underachieving center could be more effective. The Clippers have the Nos. 8 and 12 picks in the draft, and it's possible a package of Odom, one or both of the picks and next year's No. 1 (because the Rockets must give next year's pick to the Grizzlies) for this year's No. 1 and Glen Rice could work and benefit both teams. Then the Rockets could select a big man like Stanford's Curtis Borchard with one of the draft picks and field a lineup—starting with Steve Francis, Odom and Maurice Taylor—with a chance to make the playoffs now. The Warriors have less to offer from their current roster, but they do have the No. 3 pick. The Rockets could gamble the Bulls will pass on Yao because they have two young big men in Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry. That could get Yao for the Rockets in a deal with Golden State, plus the Warriors' No. 1 from next season and perhaps a usable big man like Adonal Foyle. There's also talk Houston will stick with Yao but might try to extract something from the Bulls, like Jamal Crawford or a future No. 1 pick, to pass on the trade offers for Williams. If Yao isn't chosen No. 1, the Chinese government could make it difficult for the team picking him. The government believes it's important for national pride that he be chosen first. And the real horse trading (or Yao dealing) doesn't usually begin until after the Chicago draft camp in June.
here's how i see it (ive been out for a few days so i may be posting w/o taking all the posted info into account but here goes) one of the biggest hurdles (downfalls) of ming is dealing with china, workin out contract, etc etc etc. so this is a smokescreen - ie let everyone know its easy to work thru the red tape - hence increasing his trade value a bit, thus allowing us to get a better deal. it wouldnt surprise me, with our new draft status i think there are at least 20, if not 28 gm's and front office staff checking this board for the rumors!
Hey Doc.. I was with you until you started to put #3 into this. Do you think the rox would honestly think about letting him go? Are you crazy!!! I don't care what some of you think. The guy has been in the league 3 years, and some of you want him to already show the leadership skills of a MJ. Think about it... how much props did Bibby get before he finally got a shot to play with quality players around him. My guess is that they still make a move to get him more help than one player who they would have to turn circus tricks to get.
Hottoddie, damn that is an outrageous trade. The Rockets would be fools not to take that trade. That would turn this franchise around, but no way clippers would give up that much. Unless, the do not want all of the guarantee contracts next year.
