Maybe they just did. Do you think any reporters read this board? I'm not sure that this is what they are doing, but it does seem a little quick to be signing him. OTOH, maybe they did some homework in advance, perhaps looking into trading for him, so they didn't have that much left to do? One can speculate forever … and we do! ;)

DoD: Yes, I'm officially on side. This soap opera is just too good not to be a part of. :D

I believe that CD knows who Doc Rocket is, and he certainly knows who Clutch is...

He also knows that every GM in the league is probably reading our BBS, trying to get ANY info they can.

It would not surprise me, if Doc and Clutch are being told by insiders, including CD himself, that we've already worked out all the issues with Ming, so other teams who want him won't be scared away by all the talk of China being difficult to work with.

And it definitely in the best interest of the Rockets to be busy working out details with all the Chinese signatories, which is excellent, but he's also probably trying to get Ming's value as high as possible, and then walk into draft day, ready to play.

If noone comes up with something incredible in trade, then Ming is a Rocket. Houston must know they have all the problems solved, or else their trading hand will be weak. And Ming must look as valuable as possible, or the trade offers won't come in.

I'd like to get Ming, but I'm with Doc on pulling something like ending up with Curry, Richardson. Odom, picks, etc. IF (Big IF) it works out that way...

7 days after we win the #1 pick and it's already decided? That's, um, baloney.

I pray to the Almighty that Doc is wrong.

    Ming is gonna bust.

Uh, Sherlock, we love you, but . . . maybe you should give up that moniker.

YESSSSSS! NATIONAL TV HERE WE COME!!! I'm glad they didn't plan on taking some crappy role players or some stars for Ming and are only now considering SUPERstars. Thank you Doc you've made my night. BTW, do you hear any info on the Bulls and what they plan to do with their pick and if they have any trades looming in the distance??

For the record ... I posted this on another thread ...

Doc ("... done...") must have better sources than me ("... aren't sold ... yet") or Clutch ( "... close ...").

Have been on the phone all night and I'm no where near "close" or "done" ... but ... I trust both Doc and Clutch ... so I would vote for their take on this.

PS: This does not make me happy ... not that my sources are obviously wrong ( they're pretty tight at Greenway), not an ego thing at all or whatever ... I just think its a bad move at this stage ... far too early ... far too narrow in its scope ... everything points in another direction ... this announcement or scoop has blindsided me ... :(

PPS: Thanks for the scoop Doc. :)

First game vs the Lakers on national TV.

Write it down, and believe it.

This makes a lot of sense. And if you take it a step further, Ming's value may be increased if he is already signed to a contract. If someone trades for him at the last minute, without having had the benefit of having worked out all these details with his people, the associated uncertainty and risk surrounding doing that late in the game, or even after they have drafted him when their leveraged would be much reduced, would affect his value. If you can say, "We've got him signed and here are the details," then that risk is greatly reduced and his trade value would be higher. Having said that, DON'T SPRING MING!!! If only for the fact that it will ensure more Rockets games will be nationally telecast so I can see more Rocket ball! (Thanks for pointing that out RRU. ;))

I agree Pops, this does not make sense. It seems more like smoke screens then anything else. EVERYBODY in the nba (it seems) is trying to trade up to get Williams. Every media source is stating that Krause cannot screw this year up, by drafting Ming. Rockets, Francis & media were reporting the Rockets did not want any more projects, and wanted impact players to take them into the playoffs (before winning #1). Ming is a big project, that could take several years to pan out. Troys comments from Francis do make somewhat sense. Its hard picking a #1 whos only competion probably could not beat a CBA team.

Unless the Rockets have an agreement that everybody will release MING for summer workouts, training camps, etc... I just do not see anything happening this quick.

I grew up in Houston politics, and making an agreement with 8 Chinese parties, would takes weeks (if not months) to get completed. I just do not see it, unless the Sharks release him....or they agree to hold their training in Houston (at westside), so the Rockets can help Ming & the rest of the Sharks. It just looks like smoke screens this early.

Doc really stole my thunder! I earlier hacked into a high profile account on the Rockets mainframe to uncover the news on Ming. For privacy sake, lets call him Rudy T. No, that's too obvious. Uhh, let's say R. Tomjanovich. Not only is Ming the thing but I also found something else of interest. I don't want to let the cat err the dog out of the bag but here goes. Your brand new 2002-2003 Houston Rockets jerseys......

Do the Rockets have a second round pick?

If after they do get YAO MING, how many picks do they have left? one or two?

Has any of you considered that the Rockets need somebody who can box out people, and take up space under the basket?

Would you consider UDONIS HASLEM from Florida?

Or would M. Haislip or M. Ely go before Haslem?

Or, maybe he did. Notice these lines?

I have been given some wishes that may work out but I can't reveal those simply because so many media people get their info here it could ACTUALLY hurt 'the cause!'

He was referring to the acquisition of Odom or another veteran for the 15th pick, but could it be an indication that this thread is secretly a way to pressure the other teams to sweeten their offers?

    Or, how about this line?

Granted, this could all blow up as usual...it has before!

I thought the deal was done?

    Or, this?

    Done for now...

Another indicator that the Rockets are open to offers?

    And, finally.

Here's a quote - 'If they offer us the world, we may consider it.' He said consider, not take - consider!

If they're willing to consider offers, then the deal is not final.

The only reason that I'm questioning Doc's post, is because he (to my knowledge) has never spoken in noncryptic terms before. Suddenly, he speaks plain english. Oeilpere & a couple of other posters haven't been able to corroborate his report, even a little. In fact, they've been hearing just the opposite. Something's a little fishy here. It sounds to me like the Rockets are turning up the heat.

The 38th, if it falls correctly, will make the team. I can't say who they're looking at right now...it's not my place. However, if I worked for the Rockets, I'd trade it for a proven player!

    by me

I was thinking Juan Dixon but would that be too much of a longshot

    Doc,
I haven't even begun to read this thread yet, so I just wanted to say thanks before hand.
