How does a team get ass whooped 35-7 and then come out and completely dominate a team to the tune of 49-0? Wow. Benson is supremely good, and Derrick Johnson does not allow ball carries to advance.
Benson had a great game. But I tell you what, Vincent Young is the man. It's been a long time that Texas has had a QB that had both the talent and DESIRE to assert his will against a great team and turn a game around. Major Applewhite had the desire, Chris Sims had the skill. Vincent is developing into the total package. Texas has been short on guts and grit for a long time. I think Robinson, the new Def. Coordinator is making a huge impact on our swagger. With Young leading the offense, we could be very good. Hopefully Mack Brown will grow a pair and fire Greg Davis, and bring in an Offensive Coordinator that can push us past Oklahoma and into a national championship game.
this was 10x better. tech wasn't even that great compared to the kstate game until the last drive. but this was just insane. it's now the greatest event i've ever been to, knocking the wrestlemania at the astrodome out of the top spot*. when we went down 35-7 you could only laugh so you wouldn't cry. then when we scored before half, everyone cheered mostly because it had been so long but also b/c it at least feel like we had a chance. a chance mostly just in that "i'm a fan of this team so i think we have a chance when we're down 30 with 2 minutes left" way but still a chance. at half, my friend and i were discussing the odds of a comeback. i said 1 in 40, he said 1 in 10. and it was great to see the fans collectively decide at halftime that we knew we had to be a huge part of this comeback if it was to happen. and even down 21, everyone was going crazy right from the 2nd half kickoff. then when we scored and the D got to take the field, it got even crazier and never let up. the scores kept coming, the D kept getting 3 and outs. the reverse to ramonce made us even crazier. then we tie the game. then take the lead after going for it on 4th and a long 1. it was just incredible. the entire second half the fans never let up. it was almost so easy you couldn't believe it. i mean, for one stretch, we had 7 offensive possessions and 7 touchdowns and 5 defensive possessions and gave up no first downs i believe. it was perfect football. when we scored to make it 35-21, you realized it could happen. when we made it 35-35, you had to figure it was ours and osu was demoralized. once it was 42-35, it was over and then it was just celebration time. then a pick 6 called back just to have vince run for a 42 yd td on the next play. amazing. 28 points, smashing the 19 comeback record for UT in the holiday bowl against washington and only 3 short of the D-1A record. just a perfect second half and the greatest game i've ever been to. *it's weird that wrestlemania is my top event, considering i hadn't watched wrestling for about a year leading up to it and didn't start watching afterwards. but the matches and the atmosphere were so electric that nothing else really compared. the stone cold vs rock match was about as crazy as i've seen a crowd over an extended period of time until tonight's second half when it was electric and crazy for about an hour and a half. awesome night.
Most electric game I've ever been to at DKR. Ear drums were buzzing with all the noise. I think DKR tends to be a bit quiet for a program like Texas'...but not tonight. What a game. I remember thinking at the end of the 2nd... "if we score here, then we'll get the ball in the 3rd...and if we score another TD, we'll just be down by 14 and it's anybody's game." And that's what happened...
I think the Longhorns have a squad strong enough to potentially WIN the Holiday Bowl this year! Congrats Horns!
that's a call that mack usually doesn't do. it was great to see that he had the faith in his players and it worked. maybe things are going to be different with mack still here. p.s. - i still want greg davis fired.
I agree haven. It was definitely the loudest I've heard it, especially up in our seats on the west side upper deck. I have never seen a team that pumped on the sidelines for that long. The entire second half had the Longhorn players jumping up and down, getting the crowd into it. Props to Mack as well. We all thought that they'd just let the clock run out at the end of the first half, but Mack made the right call going for a TD before the half. What a game!
So I hope this quells all the talk about moving Vince to wide receiver. His numbers outside of the interceptions the past three games are very impressive. I hope he’s turned the corner and this is the real Vince, who was a fairly good passer his first season btw. Mack has done a 180 on handling this quarterbacking situation compared to Simms vs. Applewhite. He gave both Mock and Vince fair shots and Vince won out. And he hasn’t turned back since which would have been easy for him to do after the Missouri game.
Peterson put 100+ more yards on OSU than Benson did. Plus check Peterson's numbers against a GOOD defense, Texas.
Peterson will probably be very good at some point, but right now he is in the right place at the right time. He would be good if he played somewhere else, but he plays for one of the best teams in football. Jason White and the rest of the talent on offense opens up the field for Peterson, but he is fast and he is strong. Time will tell how good he is. He will face adversity at some point.
Playing a similar schedule, in the same division within the same conference, Benson has better numbers than Peterson across the board - yards, yards per carry, TDs. Peterson's gonna win, though, because his team won the head-to-head matchup. It's too bad, Ced's had a heck of a career with UT.
