Typcial Sam Fisher - bring up tired old arguments then resort to name calling to stir things up. Uncalled for sir !!! BOOOOOOOO !!!! DD
16/9 maybe. A consistent mid-range jumper and fowl shot will go miles towards his improvement. But, All Star? First he has to scale the wall over Brand, Gasol, Dirk, Duncan, Boozer, Jefferson and West, all off the top of my addle-pated pate.
The ironic part about this is that we traded your hero to get Scola in one of the great trash-for-treasure swaps of all time.
Not my hero at all, people just jumped to that conclusion, I just wanted him to get a chance because Rafer is so bad. I loved the Scola when it went down, and still love it today. DD
No, I said 16 and 9 are borderline all star numbers.....not that he would or should be an all star. Anyone would take those numbers and greater than 50% shooting from their starting PF....that is great production. Now, if we can only get similar consistency from our PG position... DD
And that's just the guys in the WC - even in the East you've got to consider Garnett, Bosh, Wallace, Jamison among others as better, depending on what you want to call Bosh's position. I may also give Horford the nod given his youth and rebounding.
This is amazing. Perhaps if we get Matthew Barney as an assistant coach, this, and more, will be implemented to the Rockets' game plan.
Oh really? So Dawson really had a clue all of those years we got nothing out of the NBA lotto, eh? Why is it that EVERY time you decide to go out on a limb and start sawing it off you start taking potshots at JVG? Exactly where were you hibernating in the years BEFORE JVG showed up? Greece?
He's too old and too slow. He probably wouldn't see much court time, even if he were to come to the NBA.
DaDa, nice job on the title, and for sticking with your guns on the topic, but really... while rafer might not be optimum in the veins of say Dwill or cp3, he runs this offense better than anyone else we've seen (I'm just guessing, but I'd bet you thought Stevie or MikeJ were going to snag that job and neither came close) and seemed to improve with Adelman's arrival. I have problems with Rafer's decision making at times, but for the most part he makes our team look better. period. If anything, we need ANOTHER rafer to spell the one we have so they could both keep their stamina up and their minutes within reason. I don't know if this guy PapaVaseline-us could pan out or not but here are my problems with him... 1) We have seen the primadonna euro/greek attitude of "promise me playing time and maybe I'll come play for you" drama here, and it wasn't pretty. While Vspan may have been better than what we saw, he never seemed to earn any more time than he got, and his attitude got him nowhere here. I'm not a JVG lover per say, but I also don't think all, or even the majority of that situation was on JVG. Vaseline-us had an attitude problem and felt he was OWED time. This guy sounds not only just like that, but perhaps worse, compounded by better skills, more accolades in the euro league, and having watched how the other greek Tmac fared here. 2) He's tall, and seemingly slower than you might like from a PG. That might create some matchup problems in his favor occasionally, but he will be completely useless against any of the smaller guards who will be faster than he is. I see this as a defensive liability. 3) Watching this past season, I'm not sure how you can think that Rafer is this team's problem, besides just being a raferhater. Could we get better at PG, maybe, but I don't know for sure if this papa dude is a solution.
I don't think the guy's lying when he says that 12 teams have expressed interest in him. The articles that I've read in the media suggest that a lot of teams would like to grab him if he ever makes up his mind and decides to commit to the NBA. That level of interest indicates to me that the the consensus among the scouts is that he can play/succeed in the league. Also, from watching the Rockets this season I would say that one of their trademarked, patented, copyrighted problems was long offensive droughts where they can't buy a bucket--and I hang a lot of that on Rafer.
He got his chances, and he was terrible at the 1. You really have to step back and look around the league - PG may have overtaken the 5 as the most talent-depleted position in the league. Rajon Rondo Devin Harris Starbury/Nate Robinson Delonte West Ray Felton Jason Williams/Chris Quinn Antonio Daniels Mike Conley Anthony Carter Sebastian Telfair Earl Watson Derek Fisher Brevin Knight/Dan Dickau Beno Udrih Steve Blake Go ahead and add Rafer to the list, but the point is, over HALF of the league is playing below average guys as primary points. During the Celtics-Cavs series, the commentators are openly musing about how Cleveland is openly ignoring Rondo on offense, and Boston can't make them pay for it. We do need to upgrade the position if we can. But in relative terms, Rafer hasn't been bad. We get in trouble when he's pressed into duty as a main option on offense, which happens all too often when Yao or McGrady get hurt and the rest of the lineup includes no-O guys like Battier, Hayes, and Deke. Going back to the big point I keep hammering at - I don't automatically assume Euro guys aren't ready to play. Many of them do translate well, and the Spurs have made a near-dynasty on the backs of a foreign roster. But PG, more than any other position, has been extremely difficult to plug foreign players into. This guy might be able to play, I still believe Kill Bill COULD have played, but it's more likely that a wing position will be better suited for him. Heck, it's the same with college guys - Luther is terrible at the point, but reasonable at the 2. I'll bet money that OJ Mayo will bomb as a 1 but would be okay as a swingman/combo guard. POINT GUARDS ARE EXTREMELY HARD TO COME BY TODAY. This part of why I'm more than okay with sending McGrady in a lopsided deal if it lands us a Kirk Hinrich. Evan
Since I say that for a lot european/foreign guys that would do good in NBA (I knew Scola was gona be good) and know that many of you don't like european players, I'm gona say this just for this another guy again.. .. bring him! In driving to the basket he is on the same level as manu, but not that good shooter from outside..
Regardless of this guy's talent level, he gives a horrible interview. He basically demands money, victories, respect from the coach, and a good situation for himself. Maybe he just has supreme confidence in his ability to contribute to a team, but contrast his interview to any of Scola's. Scola was all about the team whether it was the national team or the rockets. Luis was actually grateful for the chance to play for us. Papaloukas acts like he'd be doing San Antonio, Dallas, Detroit, or Cleveland a big fat favor by coming over. This is very reminiscent of Vspan, who had the talent of a starter but the attitude of a failure. I'm sure the fact that they're both Greek is pure coincidence.
ok guys when i said european i meant foreign... way to get your panty's in a wad. i still don't like foreign players they were taught a different style of basketball which i prefer not to watch. yes i do consider 99% of all foreign players soft, flop, and not athletic. (compared to nba players)
hes good but i dont think he'll succeed in the league and its not like any of us have a hand on what morey does
