Ah, I don't read that board for any actual reports, I trusted the articles I researched and quoted, which is why I made this thread. If what I read about the guy would have been bunk, I would not have brought it up, but so many NBA teams have been after him, that he warranted a deeper look, and he looks quite interesting to me. Not to mention I like keeping the core together and being ready to make a move at the Trade deadline with all of our expirings, so this could be a way to upgrade the team considerably and still be a player in the "Unloading" sweepstacks next February. DD
It may take the full MLE to bring him over, depending on the rest of the roster and how the Free Agency period goes, he might be worth the full MLE. DD
I don't know if to be concerned or amused that the folks on the Spurs forum are trying to help us fix our team. I guess since they gave us scola, they feel they can meddle. But the dude looks like a good player from DD'S reports, but if he is not a shooter, then it means our new SF MUST be a scorer and a 3pt shooter cos we cant afford to have TMac as the only guy on the startling lineup that can shoot 3s
I mean, come ON DD. Do you just browse the internet all day for GREEK MACs? I'll defend him here... the Greek league, after the Spanish league, is probably the best outside the NBA. Both are quite good and quite competitive.
Doesn't look bad. But does he have an outside shot? I saw nice passes and finishes, but what about shooting? Don't think the minimum will bring him over. But a 6-7 PG is a hard thing to find.
I like the clip where he goes between his legs and then between the legs of two cows before a set shot into the grain silo.
Do they have barns in Moscow? Pretty funny though. No love for my thread title though? Come on......I can just see people rolling their eyes and deciding whether or not to click it. DD
DD, he has no shot tho, do you honestly think surround Yao with a pg who cant shoot is a good idea. And i guess he is equivalent to T-Mac except for the shooting ability
One thing I do enjoy about DD is that u start something and stick around to defend ur point. That's what I do and that's a good thing. I've seen the papalucas guy play and he's pretty good as a international player. The only sticking points for me is, he makes 12m us money and the big euro pg transistion. We've seen guys like Jasekavechik, Jaris, and planic all struggle with speed and quickness at the pg spot. To top it off those big euro pg can't post up. I like Jaric a lot more than I do papalucas, but trying to get those guys to translate is about like the hs kids. I mean scola is considered the best big man in europe and if u stack him up, he's a avg player over here despite being 28yrs old.
You think 14 and 9 against Utah in the playoffs is average? I don't think Scola is an elite player but with those numbers and how he finished the year, I could see him as a 16 and 9 guy and that is borderline all star, hardly average if you ask me. As for the transition at PG, yes it is a risk but our team won 55 games with our current roster, and IMHO they can afford to take a few risks to try to get over the top. And players that have the passing skill set that this guy possesses translate a LOT better than others, because thinking and reacting quickly beats quick feet almost every time. DD DD
I think this will depend on the salary he requires. Scola was 27 years old and required 3 millions last summer. This greek pg is 31 years old. If he requires FULL MLE, there will be no way for the rockets to bring him here. And, his position is pg, but Scola is playing pf. It is more difficult for a guard to adjust to nba.
Scola is avg. If kenny thomas was getting the looks he got vs utah, he would get 14 and 9. We don't call kenny thomas boderline all star. The guy gets spoon fed layups and doesn't finish plays at the rim. Back to Papalucas, he can play, I just question the transition. I think its a gamble, but it can work. I just think its hard to pass up 12m u.s. dollars for mle and make a transition.
