It's worse than the lotto, my friends. When Yao and everyone else comes back, we'll be good enough to just miss the playoffs by a few games and end up with a Jason Collier-type lotto slot. There's no upside to a season like this.

That could definitely happen. If the Rockets struggle through January without Yao(and based on that month's schedule, they will), they'll dig themselves a huge hole.

The problem is February and March's schedules are a joke. If the Rockets are fully healthy in those months, they could come back and screw themselves out of a high lottery pick.

you have to be one delusional Rocket fan if this predicament as described by Furious Jam, easily the most likely scenario, doesn't scare you. If we're gonna be bad this year, let's be bad hardcore and be in the bottom 5 at least (which is ten times more likely than getting a 7 seed, the way we're playing). I love my team, and will never root against them, but...if you're going to lose, do it with some fringe benefits.

J.J. Redick, baby. Surely he's young enough to avoid the shooters' graveyard our team has been. Maybe we'll finally have that elusive third scoring option.

Well, by the time Yao get's back I expect the Rockets to be out of it by then if they are playing like this. If that's the case we need to show Yao a good old fashioned Rockets and American custom called tanking. Hold him out for the rest of the season like David Robinson was.

We still have a chance to win the first pick. Maybe we can ask Steve to represent us at the lottery again, wearing that lucky jacket of course. :D

Real luck would have been winning the lotto the year after Yao came out. But I understand what your saying. ;)

Well, if one thing might come out of Yao being hurt is that everyone will stop talking that nonsense that McGrady is the only reason this team wins.

Yao and McGrady are a tandem. When they play well, they are a top 3 team in the NBA, capable of beating any team in the NBA, in a playoff series.

It was proven when McGrady was hurt, that the role players aren't good enough for Yao to carry them to a single victory. It is being proven when Yao is hurt, teams collapse on McGrady, effectively shutting him down; again the role players aren't good enough go for a win.

    Lottery

What are you guys talking about, this team if it gets into the playoffs will be talking Championship

The big problem is JVG. He will destroy TMac, while desperately trying to win. When it's all over, Tmac will have screwed up knees and a permanently damaged back. Our pick will suck because we weren't smart enoght to tank and trade for young players. We'll still win more than the rest of the sad-sacks in the league. JVG will load up on horrible "D and energy" yes-men like Bowen (the second coming of David Wood) or desperately dump for garbage and we'll be stuck with bad contracts and no future.

Santa, please bring me a new coach for my favorite team. Bring me someone who will bring joy back to the game, not suck the air out of the ball like an evil vampire. Give him a good lottery pick and a nice set of young, smart role players to make a team. Set Yao and Tmac free to play free as they play best, two killer options.

holy hell, people that think we're going to the lottery are hoping for GIBSON and REDDICK? Please, watch these guys and think about how they'd help us first..

Gibson has never shown a great ability to run a team. Last year he had to score a lot because of injuries, and this year, he's been a disappointment thus far. He's far from being the PG to save us.

Plus, aren't we hoping Head develops into a point? Otherwise we're starting a pretty small backcourt.

Reddick? Even more of a joke. The guy is short, not a great playmaker, not a good defender. At the very best, I think he can be Reggie Miller, except 6 inches shorter. Please no... plus he shouldn't be drafted until the mid to late first. Lottery isn't that.

In short, I hope we're not in the lottery for these guys. And I don't think we'll be there anyway ;)

What sort of nonsense is "utter oblivion"? Hey thread starter if you a going to post ignorant takes please attempt to speak proper English or use hand signs . At least do not construct your posts while under the influence of banned substances as well as the legal ones - at least you will not have to make up silly phrases or combination of words.

Calling this piece of thrash a dumb thread is an understatement. I give up.

    Tanking the season is crap.
You must take every chance you get, because you never know what next year will bring. You never know what lottery will give you. And most important - once you're in the bottom it's really hard to get back from..

Rox must try to make the postseason and then give their best.
Lottery won't bring you anything, you "spoily rocket fans"..

utter (adj.) - Complete; absolute; entire

oblivion (n.) - The state of being disregarded or forgotten

So "utter oblivion" would be completely in the state of being disregarded or forgotten. Now since oblivion itself has the connotation of being completely forgotten, utter is a bit redundant but the phrase itself is not grammatically incorrect.

Not that I agree with the original poster.

Relax everyone-- even with the two past losses, the Rox are still just 3 games from the 8th seed. I think this Rox team (as bad as it is) can be at least .500 with this cup cake schedule coming up.
