Prepare for a stronger storm than expected and you should be fine. Even with very sophisticated computer prediction technology, these storms can do unpredictable things, like stall near the coast and build up or send in squalls for days. S.P.I. was not really prepared for the rapid intensification that occurred right before landfall (Dolly), and got whacked pretty good. Even Rita fooled us all.
With this one forming close, at least we don't have to get a weeks worth of drama like we get from storms the form in the Atlantic and move towards the Gulf.
Looks like a more North shift at the latest update. Would not be surprised at all to see a CAT 1 by the time it hits here. Day off from work. W00T!
Edouard still looks pretty terrible on satellite pictures. Guess we'll see if it organizes tonight. Tomorrow should be interesting.
Yes, same here. The lush gardens in my backyard are in need of some water. This past week of high temperatures and no rain have not been good for my flowers, especially.
The latest NHC update for landfall. Might be a direct hit up the ship channel. It as now slowed to 4 mph due west. Not good.
We need to shut the city down for the next couple of days for ummm, safety reasons. I got to evacuate and not work - hopefully for at least a day and a half.
Be sure and take your pets with you... if you must "evacuate." My folks are heading up to our area tomorrow... but they still have a house up here anyway. I hope we eventually get some rain up here... we need it. It was 107 today and forecast for 106 tomorrow... and days 26-29 of about a 29 out of 31 days of 100+ heat... on top of drought since April. My lush gardens are long since dead.
It's crazy that people in my office have no idea that Edourad is even out there.. Management is clueless right now..
So, Edouard looked like crap all night. In fact, even the NHC suggested it probably wasn't a tropical storm when the plane flew out early this morning. It will likely get its act together today, but the good news is that the weakening will probably keep it from making cat 2 status. We're most likely looking at a strong tropical storm to a moderate cat 1 storm. There are some models suggesting it might not even be a TS when it comes on shore, but that stuff is hard to predict. It is also moving faster now - a little more than twice as fast - as it has been indicating it is being impacted by the high pressure ridge sitting over Arkansas. It's still getting some nasty vertical sheer, but that will diminish. Problem is, by the time it does diminish, the hurricane will be over warmer but MUCH shallower waters making any kind of rapid intensification unlikely. My guess is we'll get a cat 1 hurricane in here tomorrow around lunch time. Bunch of rain and some wind - maybe a stray twister or two.
Still heading right for Austin.....come on baby....hold together..... Just watched the tropical update on the Weather channel....they talked to the girl that just got back from flying into the storm.... 50mph winds on the NE side, barometric pressure has dropped to 1002mb...and it is moving at 9mph.... Still looking like a near hit on Houston. DD
Woah, that thing is getting it's crap together.....I don't want it to hit as a hurricane....that looks scary.....a small tight, compact hurricane would NOT be welcome.... I was hoping for a slow moving TS. DD
