no...he can't. again, look at the stats regarding fielding range. everett has no equal at SS. as the Fielding Bible says, there's really not anyone even close.

As a batter it's not 3 hits every 100 ABs. It's when the 3 hits come, or don't. It's the timliness of the 3 hits.

I'm all for AE but let's face it he and Ausmus and the 9 hole = the black hole of offense life.

no such thing. doesn't exist. you're talking about clutch. doesn't exist for batters with tons of AB's.

Please. So you telling me AE is a better defensive player than Jeter? Jack Wilson? Khalil Greene? Jimmy Rollins? He has fewer errors because he cant cover as much ground as those players. Darren Lewis played centerfield for the Giants in the mid 90's and went like a season and a half without making an error so does that make him a better centerfielder than Ken Griffey, Andruw Jones, or Jim Edmonds since they commited more errors? No way. Everett has a good glove but its no where near the best in baseball like you claim it is. I just named you 4 better defensive SS.

Not only is Jeter is not a good defensive SS, but he's terrible. Or beyond terrible.

They should read a four-page essay from the esteemed Bill James detailing the ways in which Everett is superior to Derek Jeter and how Everett easily was the best at the position the past three seasons.

Dewan's sleep-deprived crew at Baseball Info Solutions came to that conclusion after watching video of every game played in that span and charting the direction, distance, type and result of every ball put in play.

The resulting plus-minus system, in which every fielder (catchers excluded) was assigned a rating based on how he fared against an average defender at his position, greatly advanced the cause of defensive sabermetrics.

Everett was assigned a plus-76 for the past three years, well ahead of the Pirates' Jack Wilson (plus-50), who was ranked second. Tejada, at plus-15, ranked 11th. Jeter (minus-64) was 30th, and Rangers All-Star Michael Young (minus-73) ranked 31st and last.

They looked at and analyzed every single play over the last several years.

Jeter has made some of the greatest plays ever at SS so i dont care what that article says or how many errors it says he commited in 3 seasons. Anybody that think that Jeter is a "horrible" SS is nuts.

Fair enough, as long as you're OK living in lala-land. It's pretty much universally accepted within baseball that Jeter is a bad defensive shortstop. He's fantastic offensively and he makes a few spectacular plays (partially because of that lack of range you claimed Everett had), but he sucks for the most part.

Somehow you value a few spectacular plays over looking at every single play over a 3 year time period. Awesome.

    Sucks defensively, of course.

Dude dont say stuff that I didnt say. I never said Everett didnt have range. I said he doesnt have the range of a Jimmy Rollins, Khalil Greene, Jack Wilson, or Jeter. I like the Astros just as much as anybody else in Houston but the guy is not the best SS in baseball.

Everyone in baseball disagrees with you. Every stat, every observer, every analysis. Believe what you like.

So i guess the centerfielder with the fewest errors is considered the best in baseball right?

Dude. Why are you trying to make committing few errors a BAD thing? Everett's sure-handed AND has great range. Do you want him to boot a few more balls so it looks like he's failing spectacularly instead of succeeding routinely?
