you're right.. this whole situation is pretty bad.. he made his bed, so now he has to lay in it
would the price be a lot less if he had fought for joint custody?

The kids are living the good life, but somehow methinks they are not appreciating it.

I always figured that if and when I become massively rich, that I would start my kids off with basic essentials and then as they get older, wiser, and can appreciate things more, I would increase the level of fun... take more trips to fancy places, etc.

If you are 4 years old and getting showered with thousands of dollars of gifts and trips, your view of the world will be distorted.

can you do math?! 45000 a month is only 540,000 a year.. this fool makes at least 25 times that amount in one year.. playing ball.. NO endorsements included.

You telling me that you save more than 95% of your money? Maybe you should be worried eh?

It's child support, not life support.

If the kid is a year or two old and only gets child support until 18, then that's about 16 years at $54,000 a year.

It's inexact math, but Tracy makes $71,000 per quarter of each regular season games (assuming he plays his customary 70-ish games).

In other words, he could have that kid paid off in one 3 game road trip.

    It's not $45,000, it's $54,000. And it's not per month, it's per year.

Good point. It feels good to be rich, especially when you are older but child like that will (as you say) be distorted. He or she will just get used to be rich and feelings, etc will not matter

T-Mac is one of the most over-rated player in NBA. He is smart than spreewell or Pipen on money, but not on basketball court.

[News] T-Mac Has to Pay Baby-Momma

    http://www.heraldtribune.com/article/20080619/BREAKING/377867749/1661

Mom awarded $54,000 a year in paternity case

SARASOTA — Basketball star Tracy McGrady of the Houston Rockets must pay a Bradenton woman $54,156 a year in child support for their daughter, plus insurance and tuition, a Sarasota County circuit judge ruled.

The amount is far less than the $204,000 a year that Pearl Vega, 36, had argued would be more in line with McGrady’s $21.6 million annual income and give their child a lifestyle more equal to that of McGrady’s other children.

Circuit Judge Donna Berlin ruled that Vega had overstated the child’s needs and has “used child support to enhance her personal lifestyle and that of her other two children.”

“It is inappropriate for Ms. Vega to use child support as a means to further her education when she chooses to attend college as a full-time student and expect Mr. McGrady to pay for tuition, a full-time nanny and other domestic help,” Berlin wrote in the decision.

Vega’s attorney immediately filed a notice the mother would appeal.

In a trial in December, Vega's attorneys highlighted exactly what it means to be the child of an NBA star:

McGrady shares a six-bedroom, 23,000-square-foot house with a pool outside Houston with his wife and three children. He spends $5,000 per month on a chef and $1,732 for a housekeeper.

One of the children had a $16,000 birthday party for about 40 children, with a magician, clown, face painter, games and music.

McGrady and his family spend about $45,000 per month for personal travel, sometimes on private jets. The children went on trips to New York, to North Carolina a dozen times -- to Florida about the same number -- and to Atlanta, California, the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Bahamas, Mexico, the Virgin Islands, and Rio de Janeiro.

They stay at Ritz-Carltons, have private preschool and tutors, and get thousands of dollars of clothes every month.

Sounds like he got off cheap. He will pay her less than he pays his chef.

I hate hearing about this stuff. I know that the majority of players have this kind of stuff in their closets, but it still sucks to hear.

Why does it suck so much to hear? I've got friends who have kids from one night stands or relationships that ended either without marriage or in divorce. Better for both parties that the guy can afford child support than if he can't or is a deadbeat dad.

Mistakes happen. None of us know how McGrady takes care of this kid outside the limits of child support. What he is legally obligated to pay is totally separate from what he really spends, and frankly its none of our business.

All I care about is if Tmac will attack the basket rather than jack up low percentage long range jumpers...his personal life is his business as long as he isn't breaking any laws.

If he had shot from long range instead of taking it to the hole, he wouldn't be paying child support.
