He received good accolades. I like the blue collar comment on the video. Perhaps a good guy off the bench. Seems fitting for the JVG system - IMO.

I always thought Spoon was a poor man's Charles Barkley. This guy sounds like a poor man's Spoon.

Hayes is a good practice guy, it sounds like - a "Rudy" type, if you will. If he makes the team in the fall, that's what his main function will be. I would be very, very surprised to see him crack the rotation.

Wow, I thought everyone knew who Chuck Hayes was. He was the captain on one of the most recognized teams in the country. In a word, he's blue****ingcollar. Tough doesn't begin to describe him, I have always admired that he could make life hell for players that are 6'10". He doesn't play like he's 6'6", he doesn't pull any cheap tricks, he just goes balls out. Unlike Ryan Bowen he's strong and can actually stick a 20 foot jumper with consistency. Clutch. Wills his way to victory even when his teammates are f'ing up. His post game is not pretty and probably won't translate to the NBA since it mostly consists of Antawn-Jamison quick floaters while he's backing his man down. Still, I have no doubt that he can be a valuable player on the Rockets.

From what I can tell, even if he just rides the bench, he'd probably do a great job of toughening up our starters during practice. And I'm sure his contract won't break the bank. I like it.

So far Luther Head, Chuck Hayes, Lawrence Roberts (drafted in 2nd round?) are guys that have veen mentioned working out for the Rockets. They're all described as being "athletic".

I liked Chuck Hayes a lot watching him in the tourney.

He'll never be a starter in the NBA, but I can easily see him being a really good 7th or 8th man. He plays hard and smart. He's not the most physically gifted guy. He has a really good spin move with his back to the basket that reminds me a lot of Steve Smith- if you don't know it's coming, you're royally screwed. If you do know it's coming, it's still hard to stop.

I'd probably compare him to a Najera type of role, without the cheapshot artist type moves.

I like Like A Breath's description a lot. I think he has a chance to stick.

Chuck Hayes is a winner, period. He's a completely unselfish team player, good passer who has a very high basketball IQ, crashes the boards and is a tenacious man-to-man defender.

His weaknesses are certainly that he lacks height/length and a consistent outside shot. He is one of the most popular players in UK history, despite not playing in a Final Four or putting up extravagant numbers. He reminds me of Michael Harris at Rice. Had Hayes played in the WAC, I think he certainly could have put up similar numbers to what Harris put up.

Obviously being a Kentucky boy, I'm a little biased. I have long doubted that Chuck would ever make a regular season NBA roster, but I sure think that JVG is the type of guy who just may like to keep a guy like Chuck around.

I think a good rebounder. He is only 6-6 but he averged about 7.7 rebounds a game his senior year. He was the MVP of the Portsmouth Invitational. Portsmouth Invitational is a tournment before the draft for seniors. In his first game at the tournment he had 12 points, 10 rebounds. Second game he had 18 points, 11 rebounds. The Final game he had 16 points, 7 rebounds. His team won the Championship. He is a winner and I think he would be a upgrade over Ryan Bowen.

I second that. This guy is definately an upgrade over Bowen. Hopefully he'll play himself into a backup role at the 3. I sure like hardworking tweeners with fire on my team.

Remember two years ago when we first got Spoon? After he got into somewhat decent shape, he almost knocked Mo out of the rotation with his defense, rebounding, and toughness. Then he strained his calf and barely played in the postseason.

If Hayes can bring those qualities and give us something along the lines of 4ppg, 4rpg in 15 minutes off the bench, I'd be very, very happy.

This guy sounds a little bit like a shorter Michael Ruffin.

It would be nice if he made an impact at some point, but he probably won't.

He seems like a hard enough worker that he'll keep getting a shot, and it's not like we're going to lose anything by giving him a shot in the summer leagues and pre-season - so, good luck to him.

Sigh...Hayes almost DID play in the WAC. His two last choices for schools to attend were Kentucky and UTEP. Obviously he chose the Cats.

I love seeing the Rockets give Chucky a shot. I really think that he'll be able to contribute to the team...

forget all the barkley, chucy brown, ryan brown, and rodman comparisons. The man is the second coming of otis thorpe (yes i'm aware that he is at least 3 inches shorter)!!! THe man even runs like him!!! I love the pick up. These are the kind of class act guys we need on this team

He does almost remind me of a shorter, more athletic version of Otis Thorpe.

    6'5" 250 4.8/40 ????

Dude's in the wrong sport, he could be the next Tony Gonzales or Dwight Feeny. Maybe JVG will tip off Dom.
