Most of the American ones are aging out (Harrison Ford, Stallone, even the Rock is already 50). Batman Pattinson is British. So is Cavil. But if we're getting a new Superman, get we get an up-and-comer to play the Kansas farm boy scout. U.S. population 5x that of UK; where are the aspiring U.S. actors at? All the starving waiters in L.A. DC and Marvel are modern U.S. mythos. UK and Hollywood seems to have very deep ties; where pipeline of biggest projects always seems to funnel through their actors.
momoa being recasted as lobo seems like a good move. cavill might be recast as another dc character too. other than recasting captain marvel/shazam or playing plastic man. i can't think of any other dc character that could get a big screen adaptation he could play.

Cavil has a fan base. But I'm little surprised that more people didn't see it coming. When Gunn was appointed, thought it was kinda obvious he was going for a hard reboot; especially the Snyder-verse appointed cast. They want a clean break. The one team Gunn might keep are the ones he worked on himself the suicide squad actors. Wonder woman didn't get the renewal, Black Adam flopped while WB is in heavy debt, Cavil's agent is the Rock's ex wife, who Rock and Gunn was competing for a land grab. All Rock had was 'soft power' as he or Cavil could pull on fans' heart strings. But Gunn after his promotion; has real power on who is in and who's not. As i said in Reeko's DC thread (before this news officially broke); the likelihood was that both Cavil and Affleck were not coming back. Am in a wait and see with Gunn, he carries some of the Marvel shine with fans. Hope is he does Superman proper (not make the movie too jokey jokey).
The style in Gunn's hero movies have more character/storytelling and an underdog element that's deeply lacking in DC movies. The crude jokes and pop culture references are the other half but the first part makes the movie more "whole". DC's problem is it's either too gritty or "real" like Batman or sad Supes, or a half hearted Marvel ripoff that only reminds you how Marvel, even while you're getting sick of its formula, is much much better at it. Gunn's movies will def be an improvement over DC's current (lack of) vision. Maybe some of his surprise hooks for each movie will fail. At least he'll try.
