just watched this. i'm not much of an expert on graphic design, so i was more intrigued by the internationalism of the film. i immediately think NYC and American Apparel when i see helvetica, but it is so clearly and symbolically swiss that i now see it in a completely different light. i've never seen a film, or that matter a concept, like helvetica that so perfectly embodies swiss culture. the way they perceive their surroundings, the way they are all taught to compartmentalize.. clean, orderly, spaced, almost-but-not-quite-human. organized and disciplined, humane yet unadulterated. maybe it just struck a swiss chord in me, and maybe i'm all too eager to find clear and illustrative swiss/american contrasts as living here, as a lifelong texan, has proven be more tiring, frustrating, and alienating than i expected. sure is beautiful though.
I might be showing my ignorance here, but I don't understand what anyone is talking about in this thread. They have documentaries on font? Why?
Typography is a form of digital art. That's why. It's a part of everyday culture man. All that font you see on printed documents, on Clutchfans, on all those p*rn sites you watch ... It's an artform.
