How did you try to get the data back? Are you sure the drive is shot? Can you hear it clicking? I wouldn't give up, especially with those pictures. The Apple store directed me to a couple of consumer-level data recovery services that are around $500. That's local to Ft. Worth, but I'm sure there are tons in Houston. Let me know the answer to the questions above.
Just watch the youtube video I provided dude. I can tell how step by step too but its better to just follow along with the video.
Thanks for the additional help....No, I didn't pay anything for sharepod at this point, but it did keep trying to direct me to the pay version rather than a free version. That's why I was wondering if I did something wrong, or if y'all paid for it and just didn't mention it. I will try to check out that video jasonemilio posted, too, just haven't had a chance yet. We have friends coming in to town, so we've been busy cleaning up.... Regarding the drive being shot- I don't know for sure, but my wife's dad works for IBM, and used to do a lot of computer work before he got into the sales area, and I trust his judgment. Doesn't mean he knows everything, but he knows a heck of a lot, and is usually the person we go to with computer issues. Most of the baby pics we have posted on facebook. Some we still have on our cameras, and my wife's aunt still has tons of the pics she took for us. I've lost a bunch of my old pics, but I can do without them. The music, at this point, was the one thing I was worried most about not being able to recover since we have a way to get back most, if not all, of the baby pics. Thanks again, everyone. I appreciate it!
