Don't worry about that right now. Check the battery first because it is free to do so, but most likely it is your alternator.

The price on the battery for your vehicle is probably going to be around 80-100 buks, depending on the CCA and size. Dont get one at AutoZone, Duracrap sucks. Check Sears Auto Center, Advance, Oreilly. To get a decent battery, I would at least be looking to pay 85-95 dollars, without core charge.

All brands are the same but among the brands they have different quality levels. The way you tell quality is by the free replacement period.

Sear has a line of DieHard batteries that have 48 month free replacement, not the pro-rated warrenty, that is worthless. I doubt the auto parts stores has that. If they do then go for it.

They may be your only option anyways if you want to get everything tested. I think Sears probably also offers that service though.

I doubt it is his alternator because most of the time the car dies with a bad alternator.

I know from personal experience that this isn't the case, at least with most cars.

Advance has pro-rated warranties on their batteries.

How does your computer work with a bad alternator? One so bad that cannot even charge a battery enough to make it turn over a little immedietly after a drive?

pro rating is trash. The free replacement period is the only thing that matters.

48 month replacement is a good battery.

    24 is standard.

So far I have averaged around 8.5 years on my factory motorcraft batteries.

Of course they do use old 70's technology that no one wants to buy anymore unlike your highly advanced japanese auto.

its the battery. if it was the alternator the car would start and then die while driving.
you got to work fine but just can't start it... thus it's the battery.

Aight so, what I got so far is:

    1. Check the battery, probably needs to be replaced.

    2. Look for a 2 or 3 year free replacement. Advance quoted me a battery w/2 year free replacement and a 72 mos. Pro-rate for 89.99. 585 CCA. My truck requires 575 CCA.

Again, thanks to all for your help, input, and reply's

UPDATE: It was the battery. Had it tested, was at 332 CCA's.

And to my surprise, got a battery at Advance for 89.99 that had 700 CCA's and a 2 year free replacement and a 36 mos pro-rate. Not an expert but if one thing I know, CCA's equals more power, which is usually more expensive, right?

Well, again, thanks to all for your knowledge and help in this matter. (especially CaseyH, please forgive me for my sarc early on)

Now.....can someone hook a brotha up with a playoff series win in Utah?....
