Gotta love BofA's ubiquitous ATMs. One of the main reasons I bank with them. I haven't had any issues with them, contrary to many reports...
Wachovia is excellent. I joined 6 months ago and haven't looked back. I love their customer service then their ATM's are practically everywhere, they even include Wells Fargo ATM's Even if you go to a foreign ATM they refund up to $15 dollars of ATM fees. Can't go wrong with that
FYI about Wachovia ... they will begin rebranding to the Wells Fargo name at the beginning of the year. Multiple Wachovia employee's have told me they are happy with the buyout and feel Wells Fargo has a better model. If you're in Houston, I banked with Compass Bank and I really liked them.... but that was well over 10 years ago.
I joined Schwab Bank. It's online. www.schwab.com I haven't had to ask them about fraud yet. I made a mistake in my transations, and they were able to explain it very politely. They tried hard. It seemed like the rep cared.
BOA has been great for me as well. They definitely have the best online banking site. I'm not sure if Wells Fargo still does this but when I had them a few years ago they charged me $5 for calling their number to ask a question! To the OP, if you do end up with BOA use the below link for a bonus. When you apply online for the Checking account there is no direct deposit or minimum balance needed. http://www.bankofamerica.com/promos/jump/uspsmovers/
I forgot to mention that Schwab bank allows you to use ANY bank ATM. They have always refunded my fees at the end of the statement cycle. It is an interest bearing checking account with no minimum balance. It's currently 0.75%, but it's still nice to have. Free online bill pay. I have direct deposit, so I have never needed to cash a check. If I need to deposit cash, I use WAMU as my brick and mortar back and EFT it into Schwab.
I thought the fee was around $30. I might be wrong. I have it, but have been meaning to get rid of it, but haven't gotten around to it.
Bank of America and Quicken are exactly what I want in a bank. When you add direct deposit, it equals no problems ever and great convenience. I have 2 checking accounts, a savings account, a Visa card and a line of credit (which is also used for overdraft protection). BOA online is also awesome IMO. I don't want personal service. I want to do everything online and never actually go to the bank. I get charged no fees at all for bill pay. Been with them over 20 years and don't think I'll ever switch.
I'd look less at a "consumer report" and more at a financial stability report. But that's me. That said, I use three local credit unions, and two banks (Chase and BBVA Compass) for personal accounts.
For me, it's because of convenience. There's one in a lot of Tom Thumb stores (Randall's sister store - are they still around?) and there are corner banks everywhere. I may switch to Chase if I find they offer something that is better - I don't know, but all I care about really is the convenience. I really don't need a b&m bank for anything more than holding onto my checking account.
I haven't called them in forever, but I don't ever recall this happening. What the heck was your question?
I was at Woodforest for awhile. I never had any problems with them, but it did require me to go into Wal-Mart to deposit money. I'm with Chase now and really like it a lot. Only sucky part is how long it takes to post transactions and deposits. The pending transactions are hard to find on the online statement and aren't reflected on the balance. That's the one thing I really liked about Woodforest. Everything was immediate.
